Just days after a Subway Players Cup loss to London City Lionesses, the Foxes are back in action when they take on the Magpies at Gateshead International Stadium.

Looking to get back to winning ways in the North East, here are the main points from Passmoor's press conference on Friday afternoon at Belvoir Drive…

‘Really pleased’

Our Manager was pleased with aspects of the Foxes' game in midweek.

Going up against one of the country's most in-form sides, it was always going to be a tough ask to take something from Meadow Lane.

But holding on for 80 minutes against WSL1 opposition, our Manager was delighted with parts of what he saw from the Foxes in Nottingham.

“In terms of what we’re trying to create here, with this new team, it was positive,” he explained to the media following defeat to the Lionesses.

“If you take into account how important it is for London City to try and win something this season, with the amount of investment they’ve had, it makes it a harder job for us.

“Six out of the eight on the bench for them were senior internationals and a two-time Ballon D’or winner in the starting line-up.

“For ourselves, with an extensive injury list, we’re really pleased with what we did and how we did it.

“The stats of our games are showing we are always improving and you can see that on the pitch, and their unity, which is really strong at the moment.”

‘Prepared for the opportunity’

A first senior appearance for Ffion Bowen on Wednesday evening.

Ffion Bowen made her first senior appearance for Leicester on Wednesday evening, while Denny Draper's first start for the Club came after missing out on almost two years with consecutive ACL injuries.

Speaking more on the importance of our Academy, he hopes that they continue to take their chances when they come.

Passmoor continued: “We gave a first start to Denny [Draper] and had Ffion [Bowen] come off the bench. What we want to ensure is that you don’t set them (Academy players) up to fail.

“You need to make sure they are prepared for that opportunity when it comes. It’s a difficult experience for any Academy player that comes through, across the WSL, because the bridge is quite fare between the PGA Academy and the First Team.

“We’ve had quite a few of them in training with us for a few weeks now and with youth football, you’ll see some good play at times, so it’s just about consistency.

“To get Ffion on the pitch, I’m delighted for her, and the Academy, because there are hours of work put in behind the scenes, starting when they come through the gates at an early age.

“It’s always integral to have an Academy system that feeds players into your First Team environment, and of course we had Phoebe [Baker] and Beau [King] on the bench too, which sends a signal that there is a pathway here at Leicester City.”

‘We want consistency’

Addressing his team.

After starting the season with back-to-back victories, we are now looking for our first win in three against a Newcastle side who currently have a 100 per cent record this term.

Understanding that this will be no easy task, our Manager urged his side to find consistency and learn to take full advantage of chances when they come.

“Normally, the squad depth is hindered later on in the season, but we’re all aware of the situation we’re in,” Passmoor explained.

“We need to keep the players ticking over, but make sure they’re not losing any conditioning, because the games are coming thick and fast.

“Your preference would be to have more players available, and sat in the stand. We had quite a few that would make an impact and will do later on in the season.

“But players are doing well to take these opportunities and making a claim to remain within the team, so consistency and a fight to retain their place is what they’re showing me.

“We just want to be more consistent. That means being more disciplined out of possession like we were against London City, and then, in possession, creating more chances inside the final third and recognising those opportunities to exploit.”
