Heading to Ipswich Town’s Portman Road on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off) for a Carabao Cup Second Round clash against the Premier League side, we then move back to Sky Bet League One duties four days later, on the road again facing Milton Keynes Dons.

Eager to right the wrongs from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion, which saw the young right-back play 90 minutes at King Power Stadium, making his maiden start this term, the 19-year-old referenced the need to move on quickly and be as prepared as possible for our next tests.

“We came out with the loss so we’re just going to have to reflect and be ready for Tuesday,” he told us following our first defeat of the season. “We have to make sure we do better on Tuesday and on the weekend.

“[We have to] forget about this game. Obviously, we reflect and see what we could have done better and look at clips, but we just have to be ready for next week.”

After a difficult start against the Brewers, which saw the visitors score twice ahead of City being reduced to 10 men after Oliver Skipp’s red card on the half-hour mark, Aluko did take the positive of how the team regrouped.

Scoring through Wes Burns, who played ahead of Aluko down the right-hand flank, we were unable to capitalise on our dominance in the second half and force a second goal, much to his frustration.

“I think the first 20 minutes wasn’t really like us as a team,” he admitted. “It was very frustrating because we know we’re better than that.

“But I feel after that we showed what we were about. After we got the red card, there was some unity and it didn’t feel like we had 10 men. Credit to us as a team, but we want to come out with the three points, which didn’t happen."

Asked about his own performance, he added: “I did quite well, got the shot off at the edge of the box. I feel like I showcased my ability, got quite a lot of fouls in the final third but at the end of the day, all I care about is winning games, which we weren’t able to do.”
