A Jacob Murphy brace and Harvey Barnes’ strike against his former club did the damage for the visiting Magpies, who are chasing UEFA Champions League qualification.
We were behind after just two minutes at King Power Stadium, and three down inside 35 minutes, giving us an uphill battle to rescue anything from the game.

“It’s a difficult night,” van Nistelrooy said afterwards. “We lost the game in 30 minutes. If you concede in the second and [11th] minute, we don’t give ourselves the chance to get a result. It’s difficult.
“Everybody’s trying, everybody wants to do well, but then these situations happen."
Second-half substitutions helped City at least hold Newcastle back after the break, with the introduction of 15-year-old Jeremy Monga an exciting moment for the final 20 minutes. Ricardo Pereira also came on for the latter stages.
“They tried and that was a good reaction,” the Manager added. “The subs came on with very good energy. Of course, Jeremy with his debut but Ricardo also, Facundo [Buonanotte], they made entrances with the intensity that you want to see.

“That’s at least something, that they react like that. That you’re 3-0 down after 30 minutes, that’s a big problem.
“It’s [Monga’s] development. It’s so quick, the way he’s improving. He’s shown it in training and that’s why we put him on.
“He showed a glimpse of his quality and he will only get better. Well done to him and hopefully there’s more to come.
“He had Ricardo also behind him, to talk to him a lot, to support him, but you can see his capabilities – to dribble with the ball, with the left and right foot, and he’s a really exciting one.”
