Ruud van Nistelrooy was pleased with Leicester City's performance on Sunday
Manchester City were 2-0 winners at King Power Stadium, but the Foxes performed admirably
The Manager is confident that wins will follow if City perform in that manner regularly
Goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland in each half were the difference at King Power Stadium, as Pep Guardiola’s champions left the East Midlands with three hard-fought points.
Despite the need for Premier League victories being evident, van Nistelrooy was eager to point to the positives in City’s display which could, on another day, have seen the Dutchman’s side pick up a laudable victory on Filbert Way. “It was a very good performance of the team,” van Nistelrooy said afterwards. “It’s a shame it wasn’t rewarded with points as, at the end, that’s the most important thing.
“The performances have to reflect on points as well, which it didn’t, but the players did an excellent job. Every player on the pitch today played at a very good level, together in a certain way, they created chances, defended well, and in the end, it’s about taking your chances and eliminating as much errors as possible in your own box.
The Manager delivers instructions from his technical area.
“That was a bit of a difference today. Winning games is the best remedy for confidence, but losing games playing badly is the worst thing. We feel that, with perspective on our performances, we’ve got something which gives you hope and something to build on.
“I thought the connection today with the crowd, during the whole game and after the game, was fantastic. We really felt supported in a great way and that says something as well about the performance. They could see what we’re trying to do and were enjoying it.
“We know what we’re fighting for at the end of the season. We have to collect points to be able to stay up, but the level of performance is something to build on, that’s for sure.”
The manner in which Leicester passed the ball and progressed through the thirds was particularly pleasing for van Nistelrooy, who remains ‘convinced’ that his side will start to earn points and climb the Premier League table if these performance levels continue.
Ruud van Nistelrooy pointed to areas of positives in Leicester's performance.
“It was excellent,” he added. “Some of the build-up from the back, you watch the midfielders, with Harry [Winks] and Bouba [Soumaré] connecting with Facundo [Buonanotte] and Bilal [El Khannouss], providing the progression into the final third. “There were a couple of excellent chances. We were unlucky not to take them to get that goal and get the atmosphere going, fighting for a result.
“I can’t blame anyone, it was an excellent performance today. It hurts even more maybe that it wasn’t reflected into points. If you keep producing these performances, results will come. Your luck will fall your way as well. You’ll have a shot with a rebound, or when we hit the bar and post today, those chances will go in. I’m convinced of that.”
