LCFC Women drew 2-2 with Watford in the Subway Players Cup
The hosts took the extra point via penalties at The Hive Stadium
Manager Rick Passmoor was proud of the team’s display in north London
After so many positive moments, the game felt like it ended in defeat for the Foxes, who were pegged back by the Hornets to a draw in injury-time, before losing out on penalties for the extra point. Disappointed to let the game slip, our Manager focused on the positives during his post-match interview, leading with the fact that Olivia McLoughlin got her first 45 minutes of the season, returning from injury.
“We were dominant in many parts of the game today,” Passmoor stated. “We created chances, we got shots off, so therefore any other day we could’ve been a few goals clear heading into the last few minutes.
Araya Dennis scored her first Leicester goal on Saturday.
“One of the real big positives is that Olivia McLoughlin was back in the team and played the first half, and we saw what she brings to the team and enables us to play.
“[We want to] continue giving minutes to Liv and allowing her to become a more integral part of our team heading into the Christmas break.
“It’s a positive coming away from home, scoring the two goals as well, and then it goes into penalties, which is always a gamble, but there were some pleasing aspects going forward and creating chances.
“Even though the players are disappointed and frustrated, there’s a lot of good points we can take into training and the game next week.”
Looking more at the performance in Barnet, Passmoor was pleased with the control Leicester had for the majority of the game, and the ability to fashion opportunities and score goals.
A first appearance of the season.
But understanding that game management and seeing games out is a must in order to get more wins on the board, he identified areas to work on during the week, ahead of a return to King Power Stadium this weekend to face Southampton. “What we’ve got to ensure is that in those moments we control the game, even though their equaliser at the end was a wonderstrike,” Passmoor continued.
“But I want to concentrate on the positives in terms of how we wanted to play, the possession we had, the ability to set traps and regain the ball, so we’re looking forward to continuing this progression.
“The team are always excited about wearing the blue shirt and being at King Power Stadium, so we’re looking forward to getting back together.
“We just need to be more ruthless and put the game to bed, and work on our game management, but the players deserve a pat on the back because of their efforts today.”
