  • Manager Amandine Miquel saw improvement in her side's display in the capital
Not many games in the Barclays Women’s Super League come bigger than travelling to the home of the champions, but the Foxes certainly put a hard shift in.
Catarina Macario’s deflected free-kick put the home side in front but Leicester stayed in the game, giving themselves hope with Yuka Momiki’s second half chip shot.
Although not enough to warrant anything in South London, the quality shown by City was reflected in Miquel’s post-match comments.

“We played well in and out of possession,” the Manager explained. “There were some really good things and most of all the attitude and character we showed tonight is important and was very good.
“We had a plan to overload one side and to use the double pivot, better than we have lately, in defensive midfield.
“The intention really was to take advantage of the counter attack, and we did well. It was just about the last pass and the shots we got were a bit far; we could’ve got closer to the goal.
“But we did give them some trouble and that’s the most important thing.”
Miquel commended the Foxes efforts to trouble the hosts in South London.

With each passing game, it is clear that Miquel is getting a better understanding of her team, and more importantly, the players are understanding the French Manager’s philosophy.
Admitting this takes time, there is clear progress on the field as Miquel’s first season in English football draws closer to its end.
She added: “When you take a new club, it’s a new way of organising with a lot of changes, and I think it takes time. Maybe even more at the start of the season with injuries.
“But now we are doing a bit better, and the players are understanding what we want to do tactically. Most of all, though, the mental aspects are what is important for me.”
