They were the headlines from Leicester City Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s pre-Wolves fitness update on Friday, speaking to reporters in Seagrave. Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, though, is set to miss the clash with Vítor Pereira’ new side at King Power Stadium.
Goalkeeper Hermansen was withdrawn at half-time during last weekend’s defeat at Newcastle United, while Winks was out too in the North East, also missing a fruitful home double-header against West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Mads Hermansen
Injuries have been a disruption to City’s planning during van Nistelrooy’s short time in charge, but with four points from a possible nine, the Dutchman is hoping to swell that tally further on Sunday. Having players back will undoubtedly help him to do so.
Asked if Hermansen could feature against Wolves, he said: “That’s a question. We’re still doing everything we can and Mads is as well to make it for the game. There’s a possibility that he can. That’s the good news.
“It was worrying that he had to leave the pitch at half-time. It was an immediate assessment, treatment and rehab [after the game] and we’re waiting to see how today and tomorrow is, of course, to see if he can play on Sunday. It’s a possibility but we’ll have to see.”
Polish stopper Jakub Stolarczyk, who broke through from the Academy to make key contributions last term, has been out all season, but did feature for the Under-21s this week. Van Nistelrooy, though, was coy on thinking about Hermansen replacements, if indeed the Denmark international is forced out of the clash with Wolves.
Jakub Stolarczyk
“We keep our options open,” he added. “We know that we’re going for Mads, to see if he can make it. If not, we have a decision to make. We have to wait on today and tomorrow, how training goes.
“We know also that the situation is that Jakub is recently only back from a long injury. He’s just played one game in the Under-21s. All that information, we will analyse, and make the best decision possible.”
There was good news on Winks’ condition, mind you, with the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in line for a return soon, although Ndidi remains out.
“Harry has been fully a part of team training,” van Nistelrooy explained. “He’s available for selection again which is very positive news for the team, for the squad. Wilfred is in his rehab. He’s not on the pitch so he’s not available for selection.”
