  • Andy King reflects on Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Peterborough United
  • It was a productive pre-season workout for the Foxes after a gruelling first week of summer work in Seagrave
  • Louis Page struck twice and Silko Thomas also netted at LCFC Training Ground
  • King was pleased with the manner of the performance after an intense week on the training pitches
Louis Page’s brace came either side of Chris Conn-Clarke’s equaliser for the visiting Posh, before a curling effort from Silko Thomas wrapped up the scoring in front of the Blue Army at LCFC Training Ground at the weekend.
City fielded two XIs, one in each half, as each fused youth and experience at the end of a week which has pushed the squad physically in anticipation for the start of the new Sky Bet Championship campaign.

“It was really good,” King said after the 3-1 success. “Not just because you win the game, it would never have been about that today. It’s easy to say it’s not about the result when you lose, but even when you win, today was never about the result. We made that clear throughout the week.
“The lads were tired going into today, they’ve had a hard week, as pre-season should be, but to be fair to them, they’ve done everything we’ve asked of them, as they have all week. We could have been cleaner in possession but that comes off fatigue and not having a competitive game yet.
“This was our first one. We don’t normally do an opposition game until the second week, we normally do an in-house game at the end of the first week but I thought it was a great workout for them. It’s nice for the crowd to see some goals and for some of the younger lads to perform so well.
“We mentioned this week how the younger lads can perform well because of how the senior lads have been with them. It’s really, really good and an encouraging first week.”

King was particularly pleased with the input of the Academy players on Saturday, many of whom have been with the Club since the early age groups. With guidance from the senior pros this past week, King is excited to see their development continue.
He added: “To see them perform like that against a good League 1 team – Peterborough always finish pretty high in the league – was really encouraging.
“The players, but also the Academy, deserves a lot of credit for that. Having been somebody who’s worked in the Academy side of the building, it’s all well and good saying we played the Academy [players], but there’s also people who worked at U9s, U10s, U11s who have done so much work with them to get them to perform to the level they have done today.
“There has to be balance, you can’t have 11 young lads playing. With senior players coming back, there comes more competition for places. That’s adult football. As they go on, we can’t all play. Ultimately, the best ones will play, and it’s about trying to perform to keep that shirt when you’ve got it. To be fair, on the back of today, they have done really well.”
