Supporters encouraged to donate spare football boots, shirts and shorts ahead of Saturday's Doncaster Rovers fixture
Donations will support LCitC's Football Welcomes programme for refugees and people seeking asylum
Programme has engaged 490 participants from 39 nations, helping people connect through football
Donations can be made at the Utilita boot drop-off point between 1pm and 3pm
As part of the Club's Everyone's Game celebrations on 17 October, Leicester City in the Community will host a football boot and kit donation drive in support of its Football Welcomes programme. A Utilita boot drop-off box will be located outside King Power Stadium between 1pm and 3pm, where supporters can donate football boots, shirts and shorts.
The donations will help provide equipment for participants attending Football Welcomes' free weekly football sessions, many of whom are new to the UK and may not have access to their own playing kit.
The programme creates opportunities for refugees and people seeking asylum to enjoy football in a safe and welcoming environment, helping them stay active, develop friendships and build connections within their local communities.
To date, Football Welcomes has engaged 490 participants representing 39 different nations, with 20 different languages spoken among those taking part.
The programme recently saw participants travel to Northampton to take part in a special fixture against Northampton Town FC Community Trust, bringing together people seeking safety from Leicester and Northamptonshire through their shared love of football.
The occasion provided participants with an opportunity to represent their communities, meet new people and experience the sense of belonging that football can create.
Reflecting on the fixture, Joe McSharry, Community Development Manager at Leicester City in the Community, said:"From the sense of pride in wearing our club's badge, to the opportunity to represent the city where you've been welcomed, it was brilliant to see the power of football in full effect for participants who have been through enormous hardship.
"Belonging is central to our mission as a charity. We say, 'there's a place for everyone at Leicester City in the Community' and today we saw why that matters and how powerful that can be."
The donation drive will form part of Leicester City's Everyone's Game fixture, celebrating the diverse communities that have helped shape football across the city, alongside the EFL's Together Against Racism campaign.
Supporters attending Saturday's game are encouraged to bring any spare football boots, shirts or shorts they would like to donate, with collections taking place on the brickweave between 1pm and 3pm.
