Leicester City are showing visible signs of progression during pre-season after their second win of the summer, according to captain Wes Morgan.

- Morgan believes new recruits James Justin, Ayoze Pérez and Youri Tielemans have all settled in well

The Foxes’ latest outing saw them recover from Luke Varney’s early header to earn another victory against Football League opposition thanks to efforts from Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton.

Morgan, who played the opening 45 minutes and had two opportunities of his own to score, says City are still developing their fitness and structure ahead of the new campaign.

The centre-back told LCFC TV: “It was a good run out. We’re still in pre-season, still playing these games and we’re still trying to build our fitness and how we’re going to play and work on little match moments.

“It’s a stepping stone in the right direction, we’re still building to where we want to be which is making sure we’re right for the start of the season and it was a good test.

Morgan: A Good Run Out

Wes Morgan talks through the positives from the pre-season test against Cheltenham.

“Obviously, they took the one chance they had very well. They were a stubborn team in the first half and we couldn’t quite find the answer to break them down but the second half was much better when we found the way through to goal.

“It’s about building the fitness, finding our way in the game, finding our structure of how we’re going to play. We’re playing with a lot of different players, it’s mixed teams and it’s all about match fitness and game time and we just want to build to our goal which is to be right for the start of the season.”

While the Foxes were without the injured Ayoze Pérez, Morgan credited the efforts of summer signings James Justin and Youri Tielemans, who both came on at half-time to help City beat the Gloucestershire outfit.

They were a stubborn team in the first half and we couldn’t quite find the answer to break them down but the second half was much better when we found the way through to goal.

“We didn’t have Ayoze [Pérez] but the last game we played against Scunthorpe, he scored and he played a good part of that game and did well,” Morgan said.

“JJ (James Justin) has settled in well, he’s a young lad with a big, big future and a good prospect and I’ve been very impressed with what he’s offered so far.

“Obviously, Youri [Tielemans], everyone knows what he’s got to offer from last season and I think you saw in the second half that he controlled the game basically and set up [Jamie] Vardy’s goal. So, the boys are settling in very well and there are big, big things ahead for them.”
