Fuchs’ Praise For Versatile Foxes

Christian Fuchs was pleased with the way Leicester City navigated a tricky Premier League encounter against an ‘ambitious’ Sheffield United outfit on Saturday.

- Christian Fuchs believes Leicester City showed both sides of their game on Saturday against Sheffield United
- The Foxes scored two excellent goals, but also had to defend during several periods of the game
- Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes were on target during the 2-1 win in Sheffield

At Bramall Lane, Jamie Vardy’s neat finish was cancelled out by Oli McBurnie’s header, but a wonder strike from Harvey Barnes handed the Foxes all three points.

Former Austria skipper Fuchs, who made his second appearance of the season, explained why City’s character prevailed in south Yorkshire.

“It was a tough game against a very good, very ambitious Sheffield United side,” Fuchs told LCFC TV. “We showed a lot of resilience, especially in the last 10 minutes, when we were forced to defend at 2-1 up.

“[We showed] great character and we are very happy with the three points."

Fuchs was selected as Gerry Taggart's Man of the Match on LCFC Radio, and supplied the cross that eventually led to Barnes' winner.

He continued: “You see the group, you see how we perform, you see how we want to play good games. I think we did well in those three games, and I think we were a little unlucky in the first two.

Goals: Sheffield United 1 Leicester City 2

All the goals from Saturday's victory at Bramall Lane as Harvey Barnes scored a rocket to secure all three points.

“We didn’t come away with a win but today we showed we can attack but we can defend. The heat was also very tough so I’m very happy with the points but also very tired!”

Fuchs, a scorer of some superb goals himself, expressed his pride after Barnes’ thunderous effort settled the clash at Bramall Lane.

“I expect anything to happen other than Harvey hitting the ball that well!” joked the Austrian. “Listen, he made the difference today.

“I’m very happy for him that he scored his first goal of the season and what a strike it was.”

Barnes was one of three substitutes to come off the bench to help City to a victory, with Papy Mendy and Wes Morgan also playing important roles in the closing stages.

“That shows how important everybody, every team member, is,” Fuchs said. “When you come on the field, you can make a difference.

“Also, Papy when he came on and Wes. All credit to Wes, first game of the season and he cleared back there with his headers.

“That was also outstanding but not so many talk about that. All the three that came on, well done and I’m very happy with the win here.”

City will now prepare for their first Carabao Cup fixture of 2019/20 – a trip to St. James Park to face Newcastle United in the second round on Wednesday evening (7:45pm BST kick-off).

Fuchs said: “[It’s] very important. [We are] one of the clubs where it is very important that we want to advance very far.

“It’s a Thai company (Carabao) so that makes it extra-special for us and for our owners. We’re going to Newcastle and we hope to get our next win.”
