The second-placed Rams visit Holmes Park on Monday to tackle City's Under-23s, who have won five in a row and are currently fourth in Premier League 2 Division 1, on Monday (7pm kick-off).
Speaking ahead of the 10th league outing of the 2019/20 season, which will be broadcast live on LCFC TV from 6:45pm, Thomas explained the confidence which is currently flowing through the squad.
"I’m looking forward to it, obviously they’re up there in the table, I think they’re near to top and we’re in a good bit of form at the minute so it should be a good game," he said this week.
"The atmosphere in the changing room on and off the pitch has been really upbeat. Training has been good, the tempo has been good and when you’re playing well in games as well, it helps.
Thomas: Excellent Form Has Us Bouncing
Leicester City Development Squad captain George Thomas previews Monday's Premier League 2 Division 1 clash with Derby County at Holmes Park.
"It’s a good group of players and obviously when you are playing well then you’re bouncing around on the pitch, you bring more energy to the game and you feel good.
"It’s that feel good factor and when you play with that extra bit of confidence, you play better and score more goals, hopefully we can keep it going."
City have enjoyed a three-week break from action since the brilliant 2-1 win at Sky Bet League 1 side Sunderland in the Leasing.com Trophy earlier this month.
As a result, the Foxes qualified for Round 2 of the competition, where they will travel to Keepmoat Stadium to tackle Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday 4 December (7:45pm kick-off).

"Definitely, they’re the games want to play in as well, against senior opposition," he continued. "They’re the games that are going to test to see how far you’ve come.
"To come out on top of that group with eight points, it’s a great credit to the boys and shows how far we have come and now we can see how far we can kick on."
On a personal note, meanwhile, the 22-year-old midfielder has also been relishing his experience as skipper, and he paid tribute to his team-mates for making the role so beneficial.
"I’ve really enjoyed it, as you said it’s a great bunch of lads and recently we have played some really good stuff so I’ve really enjoyed and I feel I am getting better as a player," he added.

"I’m feeling really good at the minute so hopefully I can keep going, keep playing well and see what happens. It’s been a different challenge, I’ve never had that before.
"It has its ups and downs but as I said, it’s so much easier when you’ve got a great bunch of lads to work with.
"They make it easier for you, and on the pitch everyone is a leader anyway, so it doesn’t matter who wears the armband, everyone takes responsibility."
