A Real Test For Leicester's Youngsters, Says Petty

Coach Ben Petty says Leicester City's Development Squad have put out a statement by overcoming Premier League 2 Division 1 champions Everton on Monday.

City's youngsters made it eight wins in a row in all competitions by defeating last season's Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup winners at Holmes Park.

While Admiral Muskwe missed a first-half penalty, the Zimbabwe striker eventually opened the scoring, before Callum Wright gave the home side a more comfortable lead.

Everton did hit back in the latter moments, courtesy of an Anthony Gordon spot-kick, but the Foxes nonetheless held on to secure a fifth Premier League 2 victory in succession.

Asked if third-placed Leicester had sent out a statement of their intent in 2019/20, Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach Petty said: "Absolutely.

"We saw this as a real test tonight because we knew Everton are a bit of a wounded animal. They’re struggling a little bit for them.

"They’ve won this league two out of the last three years, so it was a tough game for us. We’re delighted to come out on top tonight.

"We keep saying to the lads about trying to emulate the first team and the standards they’ve set and I think the boys have really gone with that and they’ve embraced it."

City's youngsters had to remain patient in Whetstone and, despite the frustration of Muskwe's missed penalty, they eventually came out on top.

Midfielder Callum Wright catches up with LCFC TV at full-time following a 2-1 win over Everton for Leicester City's Development Squad.

"I think we had so much of the first half and we were creating so many chances," Petty continued.

"Maybe not clear cut [chances], but we felt we should have hit the target a bit more and caused the goalkeeper a few more problems.

"Obviously there was a bit of confusion with the penalty, but when you’ve won the game, we can learn from that now and I thought the boys were well deserving of the victory tonight."
