James Maddison & Marc Albrighton

We Did A Professional Job, Says Albrighton

Marc Albrighton has pointed to Leicester City's superb first-half performance in Wednesday's penalty shootout success at Everton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

- Leicester City sealed a place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening
- The clash with Everton finished 2-2 in normal time, before a 4-2 success on penalties
- Midfielder Marc Albrighton says the Foxes can be pleased with their efforts, especially in the first half

City were two goals ahead by the 29th minute at Goodison Park through strikes from James Maddison and Jonny Evans, although the Toffees hit back after the break.

Goals from Tom Davies and Leighton Baines sent the tie to penalties, which the Foxes won, largely due to the heroics of Kasper Schmeichel in goal and Jamie Vardy's winning spot-kick.

Albrighton, who rattled the bar for the visitors in the second period, says Brendan Rodgers' men can take a lot of enthusiasm from their efforts before the interval on Merseyside.

"We made hard work of it, but I think [in the] first half, we did a really professional job," City's No.11 told LCFC TV at full-time, after the Club reached a first semi-final since 2000.

"We silenced the crowd in the first 10-15 minutes. We knew we’d have to weather a bit of a storm.

"We knew it was going to be a good atmosphere here and that they’d get behind the players and the team, so we did that well and then we nicked the two goals.

The character that we’ve shown to get that late equaliser out our heads and the lads putting the penalties away was a different class.

"But then [in the] second half, we let that go and we sat off them a little bit. We didn’t really take the game to them like we did in the end of the first half.

"So, it was always going to be difficult when you sit off and then, obviously, Leighton Baines has scored a great goal to level it up.

"The character that we’ve shown to get that late equaliser out our heads and the lads putting the penalties away was a different class."

Remembering his effort in the 66th minute, which cannoned back off the bar following good work from Vardy, Albrighton admitted it was a missed chance to finish the game.

"Yes, obviously I just want them ones to drop in, but it was one where we were under the cosh a little bit and we had a chance to press them high up," he continued.

"It was nodded out to Vards (Jamie Vardy) and I think he’s done the lad for pace and put it in my path and I was just waiting for it to drop down, but it never did!

"I think that would’ve made it 3-0 and it’s probably a different game, but it weren’t to be."
