Barnes To Be Assessed For Liverpool Encounter

The Academy graduate was withdrawn in the 64th minute of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by Manchester City at Etihad Stadium after a collision with goalkeeper Ederson.
Barnes, 22, has received treatment on his ankle from the Club’s medical team and will be monitored in the days leading up to the visit of Jürgen Klopp’s men.
The European champions are due to visit King Power Stadium on Boxing Day in a clash which sees the second-placed Foxes entertain a side currently 10 points clear at the summit.
“He’s been getting treatment in the last couple of days,” Rodgers told the national media on Monday. “Hopefully he should be able to be back in training tomorrow. [It’s] his ankle."
Asked if he could be selected, the Northern Irishman added: “[He was] running at speed and there was contact, but [it’s] not as bad as what we thought. If he trains tomorrow (Tuesday), then yes.”
Liverpool, meanwhile, won the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday before heading back from Qatar to continue their Premier League campaign.
“Congratulations to Liverpool because it’s a fantastic achievement,” said Rodgers. “It’s a great status to have and very well done to them.
“We recognise it’s another difficult game but we’re at home and we want to bring our true game. We know it’s going to be incredibly difficult.
“They’ll come back on a real high and they’ll look to continue the high level of work that they’ve had over the last couple of years.”
