Roberto Firmino's double and solitary efforts from James Milner, from the penalty spot, and Trent Alexander Arnold sealed a 4-0 win for the Reds on Filbert Way.

Reflecting on just Leicester's fourth defeat of the 2019/20 campaign, Rodgers said his young team 'gave their all' to the cause, but they came up against one of the league's 'outstanding' sides.

Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, the Northern Irishman said: "It's a disappointing result for us. I thought that the players gave their all. They fought right to the very end in the game.

They’re great games for us to learn and develop in and we can’t be disappointed for too long because we travel tomorrow (Friday) and play Saturday.

"We just didn’t play with enough quality and, with the ball, we gave the ball up way too cheaply, especially [in the] first half.

"When you do that against a good team, you invite pressure, but at 1-0, going into the second half, we’re still in the game.

"We’re then starting to build momentum but then we concede the penalty and at 2-0 then it becomes difficult for us and they then show their power and their strength and their quality."

Despite Leicester suffering successive defeats for the first time this season, Rodgers says focus is already on Saturday's visit to West Ham United (5:30pm GMT kick-off).

"It ended up a disappointing result for us," he continued. "But, our last two games have been against the two outstanding teams in the Premier League.

"They’re great games for us to learn and develop in and we can’t be disappointed for too long because we travel tomorrow (Friday) and play Saturday.

"The best team clearly won and it shows the improvements that we have to make."
