Mowmacre Hill Primary School Celebrates Aspirations Day With Foxes Favourites

Steve Walsh, Alan 'The Birch' Birchenall, Matt Piper and Filbert Fox were among the guests involved in Leicester City in the Community’s Aspirations Day at Mowmacre Hill Primary School.

- Pupils at Mowmacre Hill Primary School were treated to a series of events with guests associated with Leicester City for a whole day
- The purpose of Aspirations Day is to get students to think about their career prospects
- Students from each year group took part
- The day was built on last year’s success of the schools’ series of guest assemblies focusing on inspiring the children

Aspirations Day aims to inspire pupils to think about what they could do in later life during fun and inspiring activities, including talks during assemblies and PE sessions, featuring the Leicester City guests.

Barry Lamble, a Year 6 Teacher at Mowmacre Hill Primary School, thought the action-packed day suited all year groups at the Beaumont Leys school.

Lamble said: "Having LCFC come in, with a multitude of guests, was not just fun for the children but they also found it highly inspirational. The variety of guests kept all types of children entertained and engaged while the talks were perfectly set for the year groups that they were with.

Key messages on what it takes to be the best that they can be and the impact of that was really powerful and evident to see.

“The younger children loved Filbert, whereas the older children loved hearing the stories of Steve, The Birch and Matt!”

Activities included a science workshop with Year 5 and 6 children, a legends-led girls lunchtime session and a Year 1 and 2 PE lesson with Filbert Fox.

For Glenn Short, LCitC’s Deputy Primary Stars Coordinator, the range of sessions and guests helped make the day more influential.

“I think it is really important to show children that they can be whatever they wish to be,” he said.

Inspiring assemblies were at the heart of the day's activities.

“All of our guests have experienced highs and lows within their careers and to get to where they are today, they needed to be resilient, ambitious and courageous.

“Key messages on what it takes to be the best that they can be and the impact of that was really powerful and evident to see.”
