Norwich welcome Leicester City to Carrow Road on Friday evening currently sitting bottom of the Premier League standings, despite several impressive performances and results.

With exciting players like Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell, the Canaries have shown - particularly during victories over Newcastle United, Manchester City, Everton and AFC Bournemouth - an ability to play enterprising football with a fluid method in attacking positions.

However, Bailey says the fact that Farke's men have won just four games all season in the Premier League is inescapable, despite their potential for future success being on show.

"For several months, they have been very patient with the ball," he told LCFC.com earlier this week. "They are very fluid in terms of the positions the attacking players pick up.

They’re trying to play a progressive style of football, so they’ve set the difficulty quite high for themselves, but that is their philosophy.

"They do look to Pukki to get their goals, so he is clearly a focal point, and when they set their mind to it, they can be really progressive really quickly.

"They are dangerous on the counter attack, but they do actually tend to have possession for longer spells, and it can be difficult if a team is good at closing out the spaces.

"They’re trying to play a progressive style of football, so they’ve set the difficulty quite high for themselves, but that is their philosophy.

"That’s how Daniel wants to play and they still believe that, in the longer term, that is something which they can achieve and be successful with.

"However, I think there’s only so much joy supporters can take from how a club is building compared to losing games over a long period.

Teemu Pukki has scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season.

"It’s hard for everyone. It is what it is and it’s a really tough situation. Norwich have tried to make clear that there is a bigger picture.

"They may lose some of their talent if they go down, but that will be for a lot of money, and they will be able to find new talent and then the club will continue to grow.

"Hopefully, they will seize the chance to establish themselves more regularly in the Premier League off the back of that, so there is no panic."

Meanwhile, Bailey says several players in Leicester's squad have the ability to cause problems for Norwich, especially James Maddison, who spent two years in Norfolk before joining City in 2018.

"Leicester are really interesting," he continued. "They’ve clearly had a phenomenal season. There’s a lot to admire about the squad they’ve put together and the way they play football.

Back at King Power Stadium, I don’t think Leicester had their best day and Norwich did play quite well, so I think Norwich will nonetheless see potential to create a relative upset in the game.

Michael Bailey The Athletic

"For someone like James Maddison, it was absolutely the right step for him to take, and Leicester have got such a clear identity and have grown at a really steady rate.

"It looks like the foundations are really secure and clearly Brendan [Rodgers] has been really key to that. So, Norwich will view it as one of their toughest games of the season.

"Back at King Power Stadium, I don’t think Leicester had their best day and Norwich did play quite well, so I think Norwich will nonetheless see potential to create a relative upset in the game.

"By the same token, there are a lot of players in Leicester’s squad, like Maddison, who are hugely talented, and Norwich have struggled with game management at this level."
