Rodgers: Finish The Season Well

Brendan Rodgers turned his attentions to achieving Leicester City's Premier League objectives after a slender 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup Quarter-Finals on Sunday.

Ross Barkley's second-half strike brought City's run in the prestigious competition to an end at King Power Stadium in their third match staged behind closed doors since English football's return.

It means the Foxes have reached the latter stages of both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup - a marked improvement on previous seasons - and they remain third in the Premier League table.

However, Rodgers admits Leicester have not been at the same 'level' since the restart, but saw reasons for optimism in the nature of their performance against Frank Lampard's men.

Absolutely, the season's not over. We need to finish it well now and get the job done. As you say, finishing the season strongly starts on Wednesday.

"We're frustrated with the result, of course," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "I think we played very, very well. The boys gave everything in the game. We had chances [in the] first half.

"We played at the tempo we wanted, we pressed how we wanted to, but we just got punished for switching off, defensively, for a moment.

"And then, like I say, we didn't take our chances, but the performance will give us big confidence. Even though we've drawn our first two games, we haven't quite been at the level we wanted to be at, whereas this performance now will certainly help with that going into the final league games."

Gray Rues Missed Opportunities

Foxes winger Demarai Gray reviewed Sunday's FA Cup Quarter-Final defeat to Chelsea.

City now have seven league games remaining in the top flight and Rodgers was keen to stress that much work is yet to be done before they can be satisfied with their 2019/20 showing.

Just three days after the Chelsea clash, Leicester head to Goodison Park to face Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday (6pm kick-off) - and Rodgers wants to see more improvement.

"Absolutely, the season's not over," he added. "We need to finish it well now and get the job done. The games keep coming thick and fast. That's the nature of this period. It is very taxing, physically, but we've got no excuses. We'll recover now and look to bring the same level into the next game."
