Hughes Left Frustrated After Blackburn Performance

Leicester City's Development Squad captain Sam Hughes believes the Foxes need to improve at both ends of the pitch after Monday night's 4-0 reverse at Blackburn Rovers.

- Sam Hughes hopes City can learn from the mistakes made and get back to winning ways

The centre-back could not hide his frustration after a second successive defeat for the Foxes, who had started the Premier League 2 season with an impressive victory over Manchester United.

Monday's result leaves City in ninth position in the table, with Hughes keen to learn from the mistakes made in the last two games.

"I thought first half, for the first 15 minutes, we found it a little bit difficult," Hughes admitted to LCFC TV. We were sitting a little bit deep, but towards the end of the first half we started to get to grips with the game.

"We started to create chances and it's so frustrating and disappointing knowing that we came in at half-time at nil-nil, wanting to kick on.

City conceded four goals in the second-half after matching their opponents for the first 68 minutes.

"We spoke about all the things that we weren't quite doing right and how we were going to change them. We also spoke about the things that we were doing well and how we had to keep doing them in the second half.

"Unfortunately, it didn't pan out that way so we've got to take it on the chin and move on. We're going to have to reflect on it, look at the mistakes we made and try and change it for Friday."

The game was evenly matched for a large period, but after opportunities for Ali Reghba and Mitchell Clark went begging either side of the break, City were punished by the hosts.

Substitutes Joe Grayson, Connor McBride (2) and Luke Brennan all got on the scoresheet in the final 20 minutes for Blackburn, who were clinical in front of goal.

"I think it's something that we do need to work on, everyone across the pitch, in terms of taking our chances," Hughes reflected.

Extended highlights from the young Foxes' 4-0 defeat to Blackburn on Monday evening.

"We've conceded seven in two games and not scored a goal so that's just not good enough. It isn't good enough whatsoever, especially at a club like this.

"So we'll go over it and we'll try and make it better. We can't dwell on things like this, but at the end of the day, we need to make changes, something needs to give.

"I'm struggling, myself, to put my finger on it. I think it's a lot of things that all come into one for results like this to happen."

Next up, the Foxes take on Derby County Under-23s at Loughborough University Stadium on Friday evening (7pm kick-off) - a game you can see live and for free on LCFC TV.

While Hughes knows that fixture will be another stern test of credentials at that level, he is determined to turn their recent form around.

Hughes: We'll Work To Recover

Leicester City Development Squad defender Sam Hughes spoke to LCFC TV after Monday night's 4-0 defeat at Blackburn.

The 23-year-old added: "I'm hoping this week we can have a good week and we have to put things right, there's no hiding away from it.

"Lads can't hide from the mistakes we've made, you've got to get on with it and stand up to the test.

"We've got to find a way to take our opportunity. If you don't score, then you're not going to win a game, it's as simple as that.

"And we need to stop conceding as many goals as we have. I pride myself and so does the back four, on keeping clean sheets. I'm sure we'll do work this week on different types of movements.

"We have to cut out the mistakes that we make. Hopefully we can change that, and get a win on Friday."
