Wright: We're All Up For The EFL Trophy
- Leicester City Development Squad travel to face Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off)
- The Foxes defeated Hull 2-1 in their opening group stage match
- Midfielder Callum Wright spoke to LCFC TV ahead of their latest EFL Trophy fixture
- He says Leicester are looking to replicate last season's run to the quarter finals of the competition
The Foxes defeated Hull City 2-1 at KCOM Stadium last month, thanks to goals from Wright and George Hirst, to get off to a perfect start in the competition.
Attention now turns to Tuesday night's clash with Sky Bet League 2 outfit Harrogate Town at Keepmoat Stadium (7:45pm kick-off) and Wright wants to replicate last season's run into the latter stages in 2020/21.
"We showed what we’re capable of last season when we picked up some really good wins against big teams," Wright said. "We’ve got high hopes for the cup and want to go as far as possible.
"We started with a really good away win at Hull so hopefully we can back that up with another win on Tuesday."
Goals: Hull City 1 Leicester City Development Squad 2
Callum Wright and George Hirst found the net as the Club's Development Squad opened their 2020/21 EFL Trophy campaign with a win at Hull City.
The EFL Trophy pits Leicester against senior sides from the third and fourth tiers of English football, with the young Foxes facing Hull, Harrogate and Grimsby Town in this season's group stage. Facing experienced opposition can only be beneficial for their development as young players, according to Wright.
He continued: "It’s a great experience for us and it brings many challenges that you don’t often face in the league.
"Players are a lot more physical and clever and the set-pieces can be different too.
"These are the types of games we want to play in though. When you’re young, the more challenges you can face the better."
Despite taking a first half lead, City lost 2-1 away to Derby County Under-23s on Friday night, a third consecutive defeat in Premier League 2. Wright admits it will be nice to focus on a different competition and try to ensure the team get back to winning ways.
Wright Looking To Next Game
Callum Wright highlighted the importance of getting back to winning ways following the Development Squad's reverse at Derby County on Friday.
"Obviously we're all frustrated [after] three losses on the bounce now and I thought that we did get a reaction from the last two games," he added.
"At the end of the day, we didn't get the rub of the green in the game, but it happens and it's another loss, so we've got bounce back again now in training and make it right in the next game.
"It's obviously a positive that we can just get a focus on the next game on Tuesday, so as you say, a quick turnaround. Hopefully we can put it right."
