The Belgium international impressed at right-back, and had a shot saved by Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, but was unable to help the Foxes register a positive result against Dean Smith’s side.

City had several other chances to score, but it was Ross Barkley’s injury-time drive that settled the result at King Power Stadium.

Castagne told LCFC TV: “It's tough to take, this loss, especially because we were there until the end. I think we tried to go too hard up front and we gave away too much space.

“We didn't play our best today, but we cannot go away with a loss today. You have to at least keep a clean sheet.

“The ball just wouldn't drop in the right areas... We maybe weren't precise enough up front. They also did a good job defensively. But, that's on us.

“We have to do better in these areas. I think it went very well in the first three games, and today we lacked the precision. Also, in the game against West Ham, we lacked that. Sometimes it's like this.

“We have to work harder and get it again. But now, it's just looking at the next game and try to take away as many mistakes as we can from this game and do better [in the] next one.”

Castagne says the challenge now will be to focus on their UEFA Europa League encounter with FC Zorya Luhansk at King Power Stadium on Thursday (8pm BST kick-off).

“We fought today, and as I said, we missed a bit of quality,” he added. “We fought. I think that's why it's even harder, when you give your all and you just lose at the last second, or last minute, like that.

“But that's it. We have to move on from that and take as much positives as possible.

"Obviously, we're going to look at it, look at the game again to see what we can do better.

“Of course, we have to move on as quickly as possible to get ready for Thursday.  With how many games we have now in this period, we have to do that as well as we can, because it's not going to be easy.

“If we can look at the next game every time, it's going to be easier for us.”
