Morgan Seeking High Performance Level

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan believes the Foxes have a chance to 'go very far' in the UEFA Europa League, if they can continue to perform at a consistent level.

Brendan Rodgers' men secured qualification for the knockout stages last time out thanks to a dramatic 3-3 draw against SC Braga on matchday four, but top spot is still up for grabs in the group.

And while there will be a different look to the squad that faces Zorya Luhansk on Thursday evening (5:55pm kick-off), Morgan says all eyes are on taking a positive result back to Leicester.

"It's an important game for us," the experienced defender told the media in his pre-match press conference. "Obviously in our previous game, we secured qualification.

Morgan featured in Leicester’s first three Europa League group stages matches.

"This game, we want to continue the good work we've done so far. We've got an opportunity to rest and maybe change some players, which we'll do.

"It's a good chance for players who have not had as much game time to go out there, to play and perform, but the end goal is the same, which is to perform well and get the result."

With over 300 City appearances to his name, the skipper is one of the most experienced heads in squad. He also spoke about how his position within the team has changed in recent years.

"I like to think my role is still very important even though I don't play as much these days," the centre-back continued. "I'm definitely one of the elder statesman in the changing rooms, but the gaffer speaks to me all the time, I'm always talking to the coaches and they make me feel still very much part of the team.

We know as a squad we are capable of achieving big, big things. We've shown lots of moments during the Premier League season so far that we can beat any team on our day.

"I've been here at Leicester for a long time and it's good to see the young talent coming through and the boys performing well on the pitch, it gives me great joy.

"Whatever way I can support that, whether I'm coming on in the final moments of a game or playing the odd game to give some of the other players a rest, or whatever it might be.

"I know I'm still very much part of the team, it's going well and I enjoy my role. I very much focus on playing this season and I'm still capable of performing at the highest level. I just want to see how far I can get this season."

Following early season away victories over the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the league, as well as remaining unbeaten during the Europa League campaign, Morgan can see big potential in the current group.

Watch back all the goals from the Foxes' dramatic 3-3 Europa League draw with SC Braga on Thursday.

However, he is adamant that they will not get ahead of themselves or look past Thursday night's game, which has been the sole focus for the squad.

The 36-year-old added: "If we perform to the best of our ability, we can go very far. It's all about being consistent, doing what needs to be done on the pitch and ticking all the boxes.

"We know as a squad we are capable of achieving big, big things. We've shown lots of moments during the Premier League season so far that we can beat any team on our day.

"We've got a good competition (the Europa League) to perform in and we've already qualified for that, so we'll take it step by step."
