Only one outcome with Vardy

Jamie Vardy pounced in the 90th minute to take all three points back to Leicester.

Gerry Taggart said: “It’s a remarkable end to the game yet again. It was a valiant effort from Sheffield United. Their hearts must be broken after that, but you just cannot switch off when that man is on the pitch. He was feeding on scraps for the whole of that second half. He had one or two chances in the first half, but once he broke free of John Egan, there was only going to be one outcome and that was Jamie Vardy slotting the ball home.”

Mr. Leicester City on Mr. Leicester City

That last-gasp winner was Jamie Vardy's 11th goal of the season in all competitions.

Steve Walsh said: “What a week and what a schedule we’ve been through. It doesn’t matter sometimes how well you play. When you’ve got a maestro up front who can finish as coolly as that, it’s sensational. That’s why he’s one of the best in the business. He can just handle pressure situations. What a finish. Sheffield United were stubborn, they were awkward. The game should probably have been finished earlier, but Mr. Leicester City won it.”

'Incredible' Vardy

Jamie Vardy did not have many opportunities, but he took the one which matters in the final minute.

Matt Elliott said: “Walshy’s just passed on the Mr. Leicester City name tag! He’s incredible, really. He hardly featured in the second half. He didn’t have too much to feed on, but if you give him one genuine opportunity, he delivers. To be sprightly enough, energetic enough that late in the game, to just burst away from the Sheffield United rearguard… his runs were good in the first half too. Gerry said it: ‘He only needs to get it right once’.

Maddison's crucial delivery

James Maddison laid it up perfectly for the game's decisive moment.

Gerry Taggart said: “James Maddison had a decent second half. Although things didn’t come off in regards to Leicester City scoring goals, apart from the last minute, during the whole of that second half, there was a bit more about James. It was a bit more like what we know from him. He was always probing, always trying to look forward with his passes and he kept going until the end. It was a fantastic, weighted pass into Jamie which was absolutely crucial.”

A morale-boosting success

Brendan Rodgers' men return to the top four in the Premier League.

Steve Walsh said: “Looking at the whole team’s performance and individual performances, things didn’t quite come off in the final third for long spells. It wasn’t as slick as normal, but the sign of a good team is grinding a result out in the end and they stuck to the task. They got their rewards. I’m pleased for Brendan [Rodgers] and everybody because of the weeks they’ve had, the schedule that they’ve had. That is a morale-booster.”

Steadying the ship

Ayoze Pérez opened the scoring for the Foxes.

Matt Elliott said: “There will be a lot of happy Leicester City supporters around the country and beyond today. Leicester ground out a victory and Jamie Vardy came up with the goods. James Maddison was right (in his post-match interview). They dug in. They ground it out. That win is as good as any. It’s three points in the bag and it keeps them at the very top end of the table. It’s hugely important, just to steady the ship a little bit.”
