Learn & Move On, Says Wakeling

Jake Wakeling says Leicester City's Development Squad will learn from their mistakes after a 4-2 defeat to Everton Under-23s at LCFC Training Ground.

Despite City dominating the second half and pressing for an equaliser at 3-2, it was the Toffees who emerged from Seagrave with the three points on Monday evening.

The timing of the goals proved crucial with Everton's second breakthrough coming immediately after the Foxes had levelled, while a late fourth stopped the hosts' comeback in its tracks.

"Well, we're all disappointed, especially with the first half," Wakeling told LCFC TV post-match. "I thought we were sloppy defensively, but the second half was much better.

Our target at half-time was to try to score two goals. We only scored the one, but we were really giving it a go, but we just need to stop conceding sloppy goals.

"We played in their half, that was spoken about at half-time, which was good, we were just unlucky with the result in the end.

"Our target at half-time was to try to score two goals. We only scored the one, but we were really giving it a go, but we just need to stop conceding sloppy goals.

"We just need to keep it tight at the back and try and not concede those goals [to] give us the best chance in the game."

The forward assisted Callum Wright's equaliser, controlling the ball in the area with a deft touch before setting up the Foxes skipper, and also found the net himself in the second half, scoring for the third time in as many games.

The former West Bromwich Albion striker believes playing in the lower divisions has benefitted his personal development and enabled him to hit the ground running at Leicester.

"I did enjoy the moment but the main thing was trying to get back in the game," the 19-year-old admitted. "I'm up there to try and score goals and create goals, which I'm doing at the moment.

"Non-League football helped me out massively with physicality, playing against bigger, stronger players, rather than last season at Under-18s level.

"Non-League, it's much stronger and you've got to get used to that as a striker because as you go up especially, a target for me is I want to play in the Premier League one day, they're going to be tough physically.

Wakeling: We Gave It A Good Go

Man of the Match Jake Wakeling spoke to LCFC TV after Leicester City's Development Squad were defeated by Everton Under-23s.

"So that helped me out massively in the transition, coming up against players like today who are physically strong."

Wakeling is looking to bounce back quickly from the disappointment and prepare well for another Premier League 2 home fixture at LCFC Training Ground against Blackburn Rovers Under-23s next Monday (7pm kick-off GMT).

He added: "We've just got to dust ourselves off and go again. We've got Blackburn at home next Monday and we've just got to put our wrongs right."
