- League champions LCFC Women recorded a 4-0 win against Charlton Athletic at King Power Stadium on Sunday
- Natasha Flint and Hannah Cain (2) were both on the scoresheet as the Foxes finished the season in style
- Manager Jonathan Morgan sums up his emotions while speaking to LCFC TV, after lifting the FA Women's Championship trophy on Filbert Way
The Addicks were blown away by a blistering first half from the Foxes, who signed off for 2020/21 in stunning fashion, ahead of the FA Women's Championship trophy lift on Filbert Way.
A late own goal sealed the 16th win of the campaign and ensured City could celebrate their coronation in style, with Morgan admitting it was the perfect ending to the title-winning season.
"I can’t really put it into words at the moment," an elated Morgan told LCFC TV after the game. "To finally lift the trophy, even though we've known for a while now that we're champions, you're not sure how you're going to take the day or how it’s going to feel.
LCFC Women Get Their Hands On FA Women's Championship Trophy!
LCFC Women were presented with the FA Women's Championship trophy after wrapping up a record-breaking season with a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic Women at King Power Stadium on Sunday.
"But I can tell you one thing, it's fantastic to get your hands on the trophy. To actually see we’ve won it, it’s there, it’s tangible, it's a great feeling. I think it was important we won today. It was a historical day for the Club, for the women's set-up.
"To come here in our first competitive game at King Power Stadium, on the day that we lifted the trophy, to win the FA Women’s Championship, nothing but a win would have satisfied anyone I don't think.
"Not only did we want to win, but we wanted to play good football and that's what we've done. I think everyone in this stadium would have enjoyed that and hopefully everyone at home watching on LCFC TV would've enjoyed that as well."
The front four all had a hand in the goals, with some fine trickery from Charlie Devlin to assist Flint, before City's No.7 also created Cain's first.
Lachante Paul then turned provider for Cain's well taken second, ahead of an unselfish pass from Flint setting up the fourth and the LCFC Women's manager was keen to praise the contributions of all the forwards.
"Hannah [Cain], Tash [Flint], Lachante [Paul] and Charlie [Devlin], they were phenomenal," he continued. "Also we had to tweak ourselves at the backline because we pushed them higher because we could afford to and we knew we had to keep playing from side to side today.
"But I think the way they approached the game was brilliant and I said to them at half-time: ‘It’s probably the first game this season you've done everything I've asked and look what it got us!’ - hopefully they might learn from that for next year.
"The two goals from Hannah were fantastic, Tash got her goal and, obviously, the own goal, we tried to get it for Tash, but it was clearly an own goal, but it was a great performance all round."
Morgan: A Fantastic Moment To Lift The Trophy
LCFC Women manager Jonathan Morgan caught up with LCFC TV following the 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on the final day of the FA Women's Championship season.
Thoughts will soon move to preparing for the new season and competing in the Barclays FA Women's Super League in 2021/22, but before then, there's a Vitality Women's FA Cup Fifth Round tie to contest against Manchester United on Sunday 16 May.
"We can finally put the end to this chapter and we can start to look forward to next season," Morgan added. "But we're going to cherish it tonight and the Club are going to enjoy it and we’ll just then, tomorrow, start going again.
"Obviously, Man Utd in the FA Cup is a big game for us, but I think realistically, we're going to be honest, we are going to turn our attentions to next year. We're not expecting to get anything out of the Man Utd game.
"So we can go there with no pressure. But we are expected to get ourselves ready for the WSL and that's going to be our priority moving forward."
