Leicester City got back to winning ways with a stunning 3-0 triumph over Newcastle United on Filbert Way on Saturday 2 May, 2015.

Despite losing out to champions-elect Chelsea beforehand, the Foxes had won four matches in a row ahead of tackling the Blues, and their second home clash in three days saw John Carver's Magpies visit the East Midlands.

Within a single minute, City were ahead as Leonardo Ulloa headed the home side in front after just 38 seconds, sparking fresh hope that Leicester would be able to continue their magnificent late surge at the end of 2014/15.

Captain Wes Morgan doubled Leicester's advantage before the interval.

The Foxes, who had been bottom of the table at Christmas and stayed there until early April, were two goals ahead on 17 minutes as captain Wes Morgan poked home from close range and the points were wrapped up in the second half after Emmanuel Riviere shoved Marcin Wasilewski in the area.

Ulloa stepped up to confidently convert his spot-kick for Leicester. The match became even less enjoyable for the visitors later on, too, as Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat were shown red cards by Mike Dean, as City toasted a fifth league win in six games.

It was 3-0 to City early on in the second half as Leonardo Ulloa hit a well-struck penalty.

Speaking afterwards, manager Nigel Pearson said: "From the kick-off we didn't allow Newcastle to feel their way in to the game. To get two goals in a short amount of time helped.

"With a couple of months to go our season was in danger of not happening as we'd like. But we've kept our destiny in our hands. Goal difference will be important - days like today help."

City: Schmeichel; Albrighton, Wasilewski (de Laet 68'), Huth, Morgan (c), Schlupp; James, Cambiasso (Hammond 74'); Mahrez; Ulloa (Kramarić 78'), Vardy.

Subs not used: Schwarzer, Konchesky, Drinkwater, Wood.

Goals: Ulloa 1', 48' pen, Morgan 17'.

Attendance: 31,576.
