Foxes Talents Star Out On Loan In 2020/21

LCFC.com profiles how several Leicester City players have fared while spending time out on loan in the English Football League and across Europe during the 2020/21 campaign.

Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall helped Luton Town record a top-half finish in the Sky Bet Championship, picking up the Supporters' Player of the Year award for his contribution to the Hatters' fine season in the second tier, registering three goals and six assists in 39 league appearances.

Daniel Iversen enjoyed a successful spell at Preston North End as the Lancashire Club concluded the Championship season in 13th position, winning their final four fixtures. The Danish international stopper recorded nine shutouts in his 22 starts for the Lilywhites after joining in January, including four consecutive clean sheets.

Admiral Muskwe's three goals in 17 Championship appearances ensured a strong end to the campaign for Wycombe Wanderers, who finished one point from safety. The 22-year-old forward made a strong impact in Gareth Ainsworth's hard-working side since arriving in January, winning the Goal of the Season prize for his strike at Swansea City.

Iversen's clean sheet away at Swansea City was one of five shutouts recorded in Preston's final seven games.

Versatile defender Josh Knight also spent time with the Chairboys, scooping both the Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year in the club's end of season awards. Knight featured in 37 league games (36 starts), scoring once, helping Wanderers win three of their final four games, although it wasn't quite enough for a second season in the division.

Forward George Hirst also got a taste of Championship football with Rotherham United, making 31 appearances for the relegated Millers, including four starts. The club were unbeaten in their final three games of the season but were unable to climb out of the bottom three on the final day.

Elsewhere, Matty James featured for two second tier clubs in 2020/21, spending the first half of the season at Barnsley, making 15 appearances for the South Yorkshire club. He arrived at Coventry City in January, scoring three times in 23 games, netting in a 6-1 rout of Millwall on the final day of the season.

In Sky Bet League 1, Darnell Johnson gained valuable experience at two clubs who survived tough seasons in the third tier to finish narrowly above the relegation zone. Following 11 appearances and one assist for Wigan Athletic, the 22-year-old centre-back moved to AFC Wimbledon for the second part of the season, playing a further 11 times in the division before injury struck in March.

Sam Hughes spent the first half of 2020/21 in the third tier, playing 14 times for Burton Albion between October and December, scoring two goals and assisting one from centre-back as the Brewers finished 16th in the final standings.

Callum Wright's Cheltenham Town lifted the Sky Bet League 2 trophy, earning promotion to the third tier. Joining in February, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder turned out 17 times for the champions, finding the net four times and registering one assist, including a goal in the 4-1 triumph over Harrogate Town to seal the league title on the final day.

Rachid Ghezzal made a temporary switch to Turkish giants Beşiktaş for the 2020/21 campaign, registering 17 assists and seven goals in 30 Süper Lig games for the Black Eagles. The Algerian winger could yet lift the league title, with the club at the league's summit on goal difference, with one fixture remaining.

Attacking midfielder Kamal Sowah spent a second consecutive season on loan at Belgium Proximus League outfit OH Leuven. The Ghanian made 34 league outings during 2020/21, scoring eight goals and laying on six assists as his side finished 11th in the regular season.

Josh Eppiah also turned out for the Belgian club 11 times during the campaign, scoring and assisting one goal. The 22-year-old forward was joined by Croatian centre-back Filip Benković in January, although the defender did not make an appearance.
