Speaking to the media via Zoom, the LCFC Women manager reported that there are no fresh injury worries within the team, but that they are still waiting on the condition of several players who missed the defeat to Manchester United two weeks ago.

The likes of Shannon O’Brien, captain Sophie Barker and Hannah Cain were all absent from the matchday squad that day, and although the international break has provided some time to recover, Morgan is yet to know if they will be back in contention for the weekend trip to West Ham.

The Foxes face the Hammers in a 3pm BST kick-off at Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday, their third Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture of 2021/22.

“It’s touch and go with them, so we’re not too sure to be fair,” he commented. “They’ve not really been in training that much this week, so we’re just going to see how that pans out really.

Hannah [Cain] has been working tremendously hard and maybe she’s just feeling the effects of that. I believe it’s her first pre-season in five years because she’s always had an injury during pre-season.

“Hopefully we can at least try and get one of them back, but again, we’re not too hopeful yet that that’s going to happen.”

Expanding on Cain’s current condition, he revealed that the attacker is not suffering from the serious foot injury which kept her out of the first half of the previous season after signing from Everton in the summer of 2020.

“Thankfully it’s nothing to do with the toe, which is obviously important for us,” Morgan added. “It was more of a stress irritation on the bone on the fourth metatarsal. That’s good in itself.

“Hannah has been working tremendously hard and maybe she’s just feeling the effects of that because I believe it’s her first pre-season in five years because she’s always had an injury during pre-season.

“So it’s probably just caught up with her during the end of it. But it’s great to see that the toe has held up and that’s not an issue.”
