United Leicester Clubs Launch Wellbeing Hub
- A new platform has been launched to access free advice on mental health and wellbeing
- Participants on the United Leicester programme will have access to helpful videos and resources
- The hub is designed by technology platform Frog Systems and funded by NHS Charities Together
- It was launched on Sunday 10 October to support World Mental Health Day
UnitedLeicester.com is a free online platform where members of the sporting community in Leicester have shared their own stories in the hope that they can help to break down the stigma around mental health and encourage anyone who is struggling to find support.
Funded by NHS Charities Together, Leicester Hospitals Charity, Raising Health (Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust) and the East Midlands Ambulance Charitable Fund, and developed by wellness solutions company, Frog Systems, the United Leicester hub contains powerful personal videos, as well as links to local support organisations and helpful resources.
Current and past players, as well as many staff and supporters from each club have contributed. Launching on World Mental Health Day, the hub will share positive wellbeing messages to encourage more people in Leicester to lead healthier, happier lives.
Having each of the four Leicester professional sports clubs as part of the programme will mean more fans and people will be able to access these resources.
Steve Walsh
Matt Bray, Leicester City in the Community Health and Wellbeing Manager said: “The new wellbeing hub has been designed for supporters of Leicester’s professional sports clubs in mind. We have achieved this by real fans, staff and legends talking about how they have overcome their own challenges.
“We all know the power of sport and loyalty fans in the city give to our sporting teams. Hopefully this is a way of clubs giving their support and helping guide adults to local opportunities and services.”
Former Leicester City captain, Steve Walsh commented: “It is vital that we recognise and offer support around the subject of mental health and wellbeing. Having the four Leicester professional sports clubs as part of the programme will mean more fans and people will be able to access these resources.
“I hope to pass on advice and experiences that will be useful to the people of Leicester.”
United Leicester
The programme features Leicester City, Leicester Riders, Leicester Tigers and Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
United Leicester project is a partnership project delivered by local professional sports clubs via their official charities – Leicester City in the Community, Leicester Riders Foundation, Leicester Tigers Foundation, and Leicestershire County Cricket Club Foundation - contributing towards the objective of promoting positive wellbeing.
Developed by Frog Systems, the new platform has videos explaining how sport has helped people in the community overcome challenges such as depression, racism and addiction.
Phil Worms, CEO of Frog Systems, said: “We are delighted to be working with the sports clubs in Leicester to deliver this important project. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns had a huge impact on people’s mental health and wellbeing, so we hope this platform will encourage people to reach out and get the help they need.”
Having relaunched earlier this year, the project will have an emphasis on supporting adults, by providing weekly sport and activity sessions.
United Leicester has been supported by a grant from NHS Charities Together, Leicester Hospitals Charity, Raising Health (Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust) and the East Midlands Ambulance Charitable Fund.
