Morgan Details Cain’s ACL Injury

Jonathan Morgan has confirmed that Hannah Cain will miss the rest of the 2021/22 season after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament last week.

- LCFC Women's Hannah Cain has been ruled out for the remainder of the season
- Jonathan Morgan revealed the midfielder has ruptured her ACL
- She suffered the injury during a behind-closed-doors friendly
- Morgan also gave an update on Charlie Devlin, Sophie Barker and Abbi Grant

The LCFC Women midfielder suffered the injury during an extended break from competitive action, following her senior debut for Wales over the international break.

The 22-year-old had featured in five of Leicester’s six fixtures ahead of the Continental Tyres League Cup meeting with Everton in midweek but will now be out for an extended period.

“Unfortunately, Hannah Cain is out for the rest of the season now,” Morgan told the media in Thursday’s press conference, ahead of the meeting with Manchester City in three days time. "She ruptured her ACL in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

We just need to support her from a mental point of view as well as a physical point of view. She will come back much stronger and much better after it.

Jonathan Morgan on Hannah Cain

“We get one back and then another one goes. Losing her for the rest of the season will obviously be a big blow for her and for the Club.

“From an attacking point of view, she came back from the international break on fire to be honest. Obviously we are there to wish her a speedy recovery and give her all the support she needs to get back to where she needs to be.

“For Hannah, it’s a big blow for her from a personal point of view. She’s had two really big injuries in two seasons. We just need to support her from a mental point of view as well as a physical point of view. She will come back much stronger and much better after it.”

Morgan is hoping to try and take a positive from the situation as it provides other players with a chance to step up and showcase their talent.

“I think it’s something that we obviously would rather have not happened to us,” he continued. “But all we can do now is regroup and go again and strengthen from a training point of view.

There was a brief return to action for Charlie Devlin against Everton.

Esmee [De Graaf] came in last night and did really well so we’re looking to keep pushing her and give her the confidence so she can play to the ability that she has."

There is better news elsewhere on the injury front with several players continuing to step up their recoveries. Charlie Devlin was introduced as a late substitute against Everton and both Sophie Barker and Abbi Grant were named on the bench for the clash at Pirelli Stadium.

Morgan added: “Charlie Devlin and Sophie Barker came back in, as well as Abbi Grant coming into the squad this week. All of them aren’t fully match fit yet, they have only just returned back to full training within the last four or five days.

“It was good to get them back in just to be in and around it and we’ll keep working hard on those guys to help push us forward.”
