A Fair Result, Says Barnes

The City No.7 scored a stunning goal to cancel out Raphinha’s free-kick in the first half, and despite Ademola Lookman also finding the net, his tap-in was ruled out by VAR and the game finished level.

Barnes felt both outfits could have claimed all three Premier League points, but neither could argue with the result in west Yorkshire.

“You always know that when you play Leeds, it’s going to be about running,” he told LCFC TV. “You’ve got to track runners and you’ve got to dig deep, really.

“Especially when you have the ball, you know that people are flying everywhere, so [you have to have] a lot of focus in the game and you’ve got to weather their good spells and make sure that we stand strong as a team, and I think we did that.

Barnes Analyses Leeds Draw

Harvey Barnes speaks to LCFC TV following Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Leeds United.

“Obviously, the goal from the free-kick was a great ball in and we bounced back well with our goal. We got ourselves right back in it, and then I think both teams had chances after that. All in all, it’s probably a fair result."

The end-to-end encounter saw City and Leeds in advanced positions throughout the 90 minutes, and Barnes attributed that to both team’s playing style.

“It’s a game where you’re pretty much one-on-one everywhere,” he said. “You see how they do it week in, week out and they don’t change for any team they play.

“You know you’ve got a one-on-one duel for pretty much 90 minutes, and if you can get the better of the man, you know your role defensively.

I’ve not seen it back properly yet, but it looked like it was from a tight angle and it was probably the only place that I could score, dipping over him.

“Every man in the team stuck to it really well and like I said, we had chances and they had chances. It’s always the same with Leeds, it’s going to be an open game.”

Barnes’ third goal of the season saw him bend an unstoppable effort into the corner of the net, and it came after only seven touches of the ball for City, as they immediately hit back to restore parity.

“I caught it sweet, and when you hit them that well and they fly in the top corner, I’m obviously delighted,” Barnes added. “It came at a great time. It was 10 seconds after their goal, so it got us right back in the game and you need that – you need the momentum back in your side.

“It was a pretty even game after that. I’ve not seen it back properly yet, but it looked like it was from a tight angle and it was probably the only place that I could score, dipping over him.”
