We Kept Believing, Says Barnes

After breaking their seven-game winless streak with a convincing 3-0 Premier League victory over Norwich City, winger Harvey Barnes exuded positivity at the full-time whistle.

Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, the Foxes went ahead thanks to Jamie Vardy’s deflected finish, assisted by Barnes, before the Academy graduate again set up City’s No.9 for his second of the game.

James Maddison added gloss to the scoreline by smashing home a third in the latter stages as City moved back into the top half of the Premier League table.

“It was a result that was needed for us,” Barnes told LCFC TV. “You can see in the first half, we were getting there, but we were getting a bit frustrated still.

“We were getting into good areas, but not quite getting the finishing touch or the final pass wasn’t quite there, but then you saw in the second half, that little bit of composure and quality in the final third, the passing and the finishes, we scored three good goals and the result in the end.”

Although the Foxes have stumbled in recent weeks, Barnes says confidence in their own ability has not wavered, and that was evident on Wednesday against the Canaries.

He said: “It's something that we’ve always had, but when you’re on a difficult run, you need to keep believing as a team and keep creating and trying to get that goal.

“Sometimes it doesn’t come, but as long as you keep going and keep creating, a lot of the time it does. Tonight, in the first half, we had to be patient. The goal wasn’t quite coming, but we kept going and in the second half it paid off.”

The first one, we get a bit of fortune, but we probably haven’t had that in the last few games. We were due a bit, it was an important goal. The longer it goes 0-0, we get frustrated, and you want to get that goal out the way.

Barnes twice linked up with Vardy to good effect at King Power Stadium, with the second goal seeing the 35-year-old take his league tally for Leicester to 150 goals in total.

Speaking of his understanding with Vardy, Barnes said: “In a way, both goals are similar where when I get the ball and I start driving, he knows that I’m looking for him, whether it’s a deeper pass like it was for the first where there’s a lot of space, or those little sliders where he’s in the box and it’s a great finish.

“We were positive from there. We’ve always had that good connection, he looks for me and I look for him, and tonight it’s worked well for the two goals.”
