Tielemans: GOTS Strike Came On A 'Perfect Day'

After an opener for the visitors at King Power Stadium early on, Tielemans hit a magnificent curler beyond David de Gea, into the roof of the net from a tight angle, to restore parity on the scoresheet. Çağlar Söyüncü, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka also found the net that afternoon on Filbert Way.

The Belgian beat off competition from Harvey Barnes, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, James Maddison, Marc Albrighton and Timothy Castagne to pick up the prize at Monday's End of Season Awards. Speaking afterwards, Tielemans provided an insight into his thought-process when it left his boot.

"I remember the build-up, with Kelechi [Iheanacho] picking up the ball high up the pitch and then squaring it to me and I just saw a run at the back post and I saw the goalkeeper advanced in his goal as well," he told LCFC TV. "I tried to chip it and it went in perfectly so it was a really nice goal.

"It happens in a split second of the moment. It is true that sometimes you know which goalkeepers are very advanced on their line. In that moment, I think it was just pure instinct. I saw him, literally, at the last moment and I just decided to try it so it’s nice when it goes in!"

To score such a goal during an occasion such as the one on that day particularly pleased Tielemans, who praised the Blue Army for the atmosphere created during the game: "It’s one of them which can go over, or next to goal, or it can be a beautiful cross as well.

"I saw someone running at the back post and just decided to go for goal late on. The atmosphere that day was really impressive, very good, and it was a really good win as well. It made it perfect. It was also one of our best games of the season.

"I think, in general, the performance of the team was really good. The goal made it perfect. Having the most beautiful goal at King Power Stadium makes it even better."
