Ricardo & Vardy Link Up To Secure Wolves Triumph

Jamie Vardy scored the only goal of the game as Leicester City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at King Power Stadium.

Opening day meetings with Wolves have been commonplace over the past few years and the fixture computer drew up another meeting between the Midlands pair at the beginning of last term.

Buoyed by the support of the Blue Army on Filbert Way, the season kicked off in positive fashion, seven days on from FA Community Shield success at Wembley Stadium. Shortly before half-time, the evergreen Jamie Vardy converted a flick after fine work from Ricardo Pereira to make it 1-0 and that’s how it stayed to secure a winning start and clean sheet for Kasper Schmeichel.

Vardy's Brace & Debut Castagne Strike Sink Baggies

All the goals from the Foxes' 2020/21 opening day win over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

Newly promoted back to the Premier League, West Brom re-entered the top-flight and provided the Foxes’ first test of 2020/21 as the Premier League began a season behind closed doors for the first time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Things couldn’t have gone much better for the visitors, who netted three second-half goals to take the points back to Leicester. Belgium international full-back Timothy Castagne opened his account for the Club on debut with a fine header, before a brace of Vardy penalties sealed the away success.

VAR Rules Out Wolves Goal In Goalless Stalemate

Watch as the video assistant referee (VAR) system disallowed Leander Dendoncker's goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers at King Power Stadium.

Just as they would do two years later, Wolves visited King Power Stadium on the opening day of the 2019/20 campaign. There was nothing to separate the sides and it ended goalless as Brendan Rodgers began his maiden full season as Foxes manager. Ayoze Pérez, meanwhile, made his first Premier League start for the Club.

Visiting midfielder Leander Dendoncker had a goal disallowed by VAR for handball in the second half, but that was as close to a goal as we got during a tight encounter on Filbert Way. Both teams would go on to have successful seasons, with City finishing fifth and Wolves in eighth.

City Fall To Day One Defeat In Manchester

Watch the goals from Leicester City's 2018/19 Premier League opener at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

City played in the first top-flight fixture of 2018/19, away to Manchester United on Friday 10 August, narrowly losing out to the record 13-time Premier League winners. Paul Pogba’s penalty had the Red Devils ahead inside three minutes and Luke Shaw’s 83rd minute goal doubled the advantage.

Substitute Vardy pulled one back when Ricardo’s cross cannoned off the post and into the path of the forward, who headed in, but there was little time to force an equaliser and Claude Puel’s men fell to defeat.

Late Despair For Leicester In Emirates Classic

All the goals from the 2017/18 Premier League season opener against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Again chosen to play in the maiden fixture of the season away to a fellow Premier League title-winner in 2017/18, City travelled down to north London to tackle Arsenal and were involved in a seven-goal thriller.

Alexandre Lacazette got the ball rolling just two minutes in at Emirates Stadium, though the away side responded three minutes later with Shinji Okazaki nodding in Leicester’s first goal of the campaign.

Marc Albrighton then set up Vardy to finish past Petr Cech from close range and turn the game on its head, but the visitors could not hold on. The last action of a blistering first half saw Danny Welbeck level the scores.

The Foxes took the lead once more when Riyad Mahrez’s corner was flicked in by Vardy for his brace, but the Gunners' pressure paid off late on as Aaron Ramsey fired home to make it 3-3 and Oliver Giroud completed the turnaround two minutes later.
