Instil A Winning Mentality, Says Albrighton

Marc Albrighton says Leicester City are hoping to continue scoring goals and picking up positive results alongside fitness gains in pre-season.

The Foxes left MKM Stadium with a 4-0 success over Sky Bet Championship side Hull City on Wednesday, with Patson Daka, Harvey Barnes, Wesley Fofana and James Maddison on the scoresheet. A double header against Derby County and Preston North End is next up on Saturday.

For Albrighton, a Premier League and FA Cup winner at the Club, getting minutes on the pitch is the most important thing, but the 32-year-old has been enthused by Leicester's attacking play too. City's No.11 starred in the second half as Brendan Rodgers made 10 changes at half-time in Hull.

"Obviously, with the scoreline and everything, it looked comfortable, but the lads did a lot of the work in the first half," he told LCFC TV. "They were always going to start on the front foot and it was always going to be difficult, but I thought the lads did brilliantly to take a one-goal lead into half-time.

I'm looking to build on that now and get as many minutes as possible leading into the season.

"We then got the goal early in the second half, which kills their momentum a little bit, and it gives us a chance to manage the game. That was my first 45 and I felt good out there. I'm looking to build on that now and get as many minutes as possible leading into the season.

"We'll take that into the weekend and hopefully I'll get some more minutes."

The Foxes now have 10 goals to their name from just three pre-season outings – which Albrighton believes is the result of hard work in training.

"The manager has put a lot of onus on scoring more goals, creating more chances, being more of an attacking threat," he explained. "He'll be pleased but he'll also be pleased with the cleansheet. Harvey will be full of confidence after scoring a couple of goals, Patson the same.

Commentary comes from John Dunn and Gerry Taggart as the Foxes seal a four-goal win over Hull City in East Yorkshire.

"They're top talents and I know the manager works hard and closely with them to get their numbers up. It's important that they continue to develop, listen to what the manager's saying, and they can go on and score a lot more this season and create a lot more chances as well."

With the Premier League curtain-raiser at home against Brentford, on 7 August, now looming, Albrighton is excited by City's summer progress.

He added: "Pre-season's about fitness, but I think we're getting to the stage now, as we edge closer to the start of the season, where we need to instil this winning mentality and take confident performances into the start of the season."
