- Timothy Castagne says ‘it’s on us’ after Leicester City were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford
- The Belgium star scored City’s maiden goal of 2022/23, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall added a fine second
- Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva found the net for the visitors
Castagne nodded the Foxes in front after converting James Maddison’s pin-point corner, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall expertly fired in off the bottom of the post for 2-0 just 30 seconds after the interval.
However, goals from Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva meant the Bees fought back to claim a 2-2 draw on Filbert Way, denying City all three points.
“I think we have the game in our hands, and then we start losing the balls,” he told LCFC TV. “We didn’t play like we did in the first half, and we gave stupid goals away.
“There was too much space, and I think we just have to manage it. If we play like we did the first half, we keep the clean sheet and we maybe score some other goals. That’s on us.

“We were starting to give the ball away too many times [in the second half], and so the space comes from nowhere. It comes from space that we don’t feel, and then after that, they get confident.
“We started to, not crumble, but we didn’t play anymore. After that, it gets tougher and tougher for us, but we can’t get in those situations. We did it so many times this season, and at some point we need to learn and get better.”
Despite the draw, Castagne was pleased to score on the opening day of the campaign, having also done so in 2020/21 away to West Bromwich Albion.
He said of the set-play: “We worked on it this week, on corners and free-kicks. We had a game between us, 11 vs. 11, and I had a few good headers in the game, so I think that’s why they put me in, so it helps that I can repay them.
I think the problem last season was we didn’t start well. Now, we started well and I don’t know why we didn’t keep it up. If we want to do something this year, we definitely need to take a look at that.Timothy Castagne LCFC TV
“It’s good (Maddison’s delivery), now he knows I’m always going to be in that zone, so he can just whip it in and hopefully it’s going to come even more.”
Academy star Dewsbury-Hall was also on target, finishing well from range. Castagne applauded the strike, however he knows there is work for City to do ahead of next week’s trip to Arsenal.
“It was a great shot, and before that, we tried to play, we played one-touch, and he arrives there and it’s just a good way to start the half,” he said.
