Following a goalless 90 minutes at Edgeley Park, where Leicester City had the majority of the possession and chances but could not find a way through, it was down to spot-kicks to decide who would progress in the Carabao Cup.

Up stepped Iversen, on debut, to make three saves from the Hatters’ five penalties, keeping out Antoni Sarcevic, Scott Quigley and Kyle Wootton to secure the Foxes’ place in the third round of the competition.

Speaking to LCFC TV, the Danish shot-stopper felt pleased to be able to contribute to overcoming the League 2 side, especially in front of the travelling Blue Army, revealing how he managed to outfox the opponent from 12 yards.

Penalties – Leicester Beat Stockport In The Shootout

Just the penalties as Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored - and Daniel Iversen saved three - in Leicester City's shootout win over Stockport County.

“It was a good debut,” the former Preston North End loanee admitted at full-time. “Penalties in the end and I saved three so it’s a happy day for me. It was better to do it at this side (of the pitch), rather than that side, so yes it was incredible.

“It’s just a mind game to wait for them. ‘Keepers don’t have anything to lose really, it’s up to the striker or whoever it is.”

Although Iversen was rarely tested, Brendan Rodgers’ side struggled to break down a resolute Stockport during normal time, but eventually made it through with Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall all striking from the spot.

The 25-year-old reflected: “We got the ball a lot, but it was really difficult for us to in the first half. When we got the ball and they were so deep. But we knew before the game that they would do that.

Iversen: A Happy Day For Me

Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen catches up with LCFC TV after saving three penalties on his debut in a shootout victory over Stockport County.

“So we had to speed the tempo up a little bit and I think we did do that in the second half - but I think we needed more. It was a tough game for us.”

A City player since 2018, the 6ft 4in ‘keeper finally got his chance to impress after five loan spells at three different clubs, where his performances earned him a place in Leicester’s first team squad for 2022/23.

Getting a taste of the action, he is determined to keep showing what he can do at LCFC Training Ground and be in the best possible shape when called upon to play.

He added: “It’s always good to come back on the right side with those penalty saves, so I’m really happy with that. I have to take my chances and train well every day. It’s what I can do, and it’s up to the gaffer to pick the team.”
