Layton Stewart’s first-half goal proved to be the difference between the sides at LCFC Training Ground, but the young Foxes were left ruing missed opportunities that could have swung the game back in the home side’s favour.

Speaking to LCFC TV in his post-match interview after full-time, Odunze commented: “We thought it was a game that we played well in, and we had quite a few chances and we weren’t able to put them away. They were a bit more clinical than us, so it’s tough to take.

“It’s always great (to face top players). We take it as a compliment to us that they play such seasoned professionals against us, so I feel like we took the opportunity, and our players went up against them quite well.”

The 19-year-old shot-stopper also had to make a series of saves himself to keep the Reds at bay in the second half, also doing enough to force Stewart to miss his spot-kick from 12 yards out. City left empty handed, though, and sit ninth in Premier League 2 Division 1 after matchday six.

“That’s my job as a goalkeeper,” the American explained. “I need to make sure that the players know that I’ll be reliable and if something does get through, that I’ll make the save, so when we’re forward, we can get the goals.

We Had The Chances, Says Odunze

Development Squad Chituru Odunze reflects on his side's narrow loss to Liverpool at LCFC Training Ground in Premier League 2.

“Personally, I think if it’s on target, I save it, so especially at the time of the game, at 1-0 down, 2-0, it would be a bit more of an uphill climb, so I was happy for it to be missed. I wish I could have made a more important one that they scored with.”

There were also some familiar faces in the crowd for Odunze, providing extra motivation to produce a solid performance in Seagrave.

"My family flew down from Canada,” he revealed. “It’s good for them to come and watch me play for the first time since maybe 2019, it was enjoyable. It’s more people and a bit more pressure and I’d like to say I thrive under pressure, so it was great.”
