Sunday’s 3pm BST kick-off on Filbert Way sees two Midlands teams go head-to-head, with bragging rights at stake as the 2022/23 Barclays Women’s Super League season reaches matchday two.

Ahead of the fixture, which sees Foxes winger Goodwin come up against her former club, she spoke exclusively to CITY about what she expects from the visitors.

“They’ve made a few good signings over the summer,” she told the Club's official programme, which will on sale around King Power Stadium on Sunday. “So, they’re definitely going to be tougher than last year.

“They’re the same as us, they want to try and build on what they did last season. But in terms of what to expect on the day itself, I think they’re going to be quick in transition, getting forward in numbers and I think it will be a really good game.”

Moving across the Midlands to join Leicester on a short-term deal in January, the England youth international extended her contract this summer after making seven appearances during the second half of 2021/22.

Discussing her experiences at City to date, the 19-year-old is now determined to kick on this season and feels ready to push for a regular starting spot this term in order to help the team achieve their goals.

Everyone wants to be starting so that is just driving each other’s standards.

She added: “We’ve got high standards and expectations of ourselves and ultimately, we want to do better than last year and build on what we did. So, we just want to gain as many points as we can, climb the table, turn losses into draws and draws into wins.

“Competition is really healthy within the group; we didn’t really have much of that last year so this year it really is helping us push each other to be better. Everyone wants to be starting so that is just driving each other’s standards.”
