'We’re Confident Wherever We Go' – Barnes On Wolves Win

Harvey Barnes was thrilled to contribute on the scoresheet in Leicester City's first away win of the season – a 4-0 triumph over Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.

- He says City must now focus on winning points before the FIFA World Cup break

Although the West Midlands hosts made a fast start, it was City who took an early lead, as Youri Tielemans hit a magnificent half-volley into the roof of the net from range. Barnes, meanwhile, doubled Leicester's advantage, before second-half efforts from James Maddison and Jamie Vardy.

It's been a tough campaign for the Foxes so far, rooted in the Premier League's bottom three for much of the term so far, and without a win on the road since the end of last season. With three wins in their past five games, though, there are positive signs for Brendan Rodgers' men.

"It’s our first away win this season so it’s something which has been on our minds a little bit," Academy graduate Barnes told LCFC TV. "We wanted to get that first one out of the way. I think, overall today, it was a great performance.

"We scored four really good goals, got a clean sheet again, which is important, and it was just a really good team performance."

A Really Good Team Performance, Says Barnes

Goalscorer Harvey Barnes reflects on Leicester City's 4-0 win at Wolves on Sunday.

Barnes' goals often have a particular look and feel to them. They usually involve quick passing to release Leicester's No.7 before a sweeping, one-touch finish. The 24-year-old admits its a method which he works on in training and one he hopes can continue to pay dividends in future.

"It’s something we work on in training," he admitted. "Whoever is on that left-hand side, it’s been Ki (Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall) a lot recently, or if the strikers are on that side, it’s those little passes that I love to play. That little one-two. It’s hard for the defender to stop and it’s worked a treat today.

"When you get the ball back it’s all about a bit of composure and the finish. The last two games have had two very similar goals. If it works, then you’ve got to keep doing it haven’t you?"

City now have one home game, against champions Manchester City, and a double header of away outings, at Everton and West Ham United, before the 2022/23 season is paused for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. For Barnes and his team-mates, it's about earning as many points as possible.

Highlights - Wolves 0 Leicester City 4

Extended highlights from Molineux as Leicester City emerge from Sunday's clash as 4-0 winners in the Premier League.

"The start we had to season, home or away, it wasn’t good," he added. "We've just hit our good bit of form in the home games and they came at the right time. I don’t think it really matters for us too much, as a team, if we’re home or away.

"I think we’re confident wherever we go. Like I said earlier, it’s nice to get that away win out of the way. It takes that weight off the shoulders and now you can go into a lot more away games now thinking we can go and win those games.

"It's going to be a bit of a different season, not one that we’ve experienced before. It’s sort of split into two halves so you’ve got to look at the last few games of this half of the season and get as high up the table as we can.

"Then you’ll reassess after that break and see where we are and get the lads back together for a final push in the second half of the season. I think that’s the way to look at it. We’ve got a few games left, we’ll pick up as many points as we can, and then we’ll take it from there."
