We're Looking To Bounce Back, Says Thomas

Restarting their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day with the visit of Newcastle, the Foxes hoped to carry on their good run of form at King Power Stadium, but were ultimately dispatched by a Magpies side, who climbed to second in the league standings.

An early penalty from Chris Wood was followed by strikes from Miguel Almirón and Joelinton, which settled the 3-0 scoreline on Filbert Way.

However, with Leicester’s next test only two days away, Thomas explained that the team see the trip to Merseyside on Friday evening (8pm kick-off) as a chance of redemption.

“It’s a day to forget for us (the Newcastle match), we weren’t at it at all, and we know that,” he told LCFC TV. “With the Liverpool game coming up quickly afterwards, it's a real positive for us and hopefully we can bounce back and get a result.

All I ever want to do is play games and get that experience under my belt. Hopefully I continue to get those opportunities and play well.

“We came in the day after Newcastle and looked at a few clips on what we hadn’t done right. Obviously, we conceded two goals so quick, which never helps, and we know you can’t start a Premier League game like that and come out with a result.

“But for us, it’s about looking at what we did wrong and getting back on the training field to prepare for our next game.

“With our first league game back, and at home, I’m sure our fans didn’t turn up expecting that to happen and neither were we. It wasn’t a day we enjoyed, but hopefully we can stick together, forget about the defeat, and get a result on Friday.”

City's young defender in action at King Power Stadium.

The young full-back reminisced about Christmas of last year, and how they replied to a Boxing Day defeat to Manchester City with a memorable home win against the Reds.

“We realised that last year,” he continued. “We had a bad result against Manchester City on Boxing Day, then two days later we went on to beat Liverpool 1-0, so we know we can do that, and hopefully we’ll show that this time.

“We’ve put things right before, and we know what we’re capable of. If we play our game, we can beat anyone. It’s going to be a tough test at Anfield, but hopefully we can come away with a positive result and the three points.”

With five top-flight appearances to his name this season, and eight in total across all competitions, the defender is relishing the chance to show his capabilities and hopes that the manager’s faith in him doesn’t fade.

“All I ever want to do is play games and get that experience under my belt,” the 21-year-old explained. “Hopefully I continue to get those opportunities and play well.

“For any player it’s about being confident in yourself and showing the qualities you have. I was happy with my performance against MK Dons, and I’ll look to have a similar performance at Liverpool.”
