Real Positives To Take, Says Barnes

Despite Kaoru Mitoma's magnificent opener for the Seagulls, Marc Albrighton and Harvey Barnes got City back on track and ahead in the game. Evan Ferguson's late header, though, denied the Foxes all three points at King Power Stadium.

"Obviously, it’s disappointing in the end," Leicester's goalscoring No.7 told LCFC TV. "I thought we did well at times in the game and we dealt with them well. They’re tactically a good side and they have a certain way of playing.

"I thought we stopped them progressing a lot in the game. We were obviously ahead until late on and it’s disappointing to concede late on. We wanted to set up in a way to stop them using their strengths and I thought we did that.

"We frustrated them a little bit and, when Wardy (Danny Ward) was called upon late on, he made some good saves and then the one at the end sneaks in. It’s disappointing.

On the other side, everyone was working hard, everyone was digging in, and you could see when we were 2-1 up that everyone was fighting to hold onto that lead.

"I think we probably dropped off a bit too deep late on and we invited a bit too much pressure, but we were dealing with it until the goal. I think we played well in parts, but in other parts we weren’t at the top of our game.

"We weren’t as crisp in attack as we have been. On the other side, everyone was working hard, everyone was digging in, and you could see when we were 2-1 up that everyone was fighting to hold onto that lead. It was just that little bit at the end.

"We didn’t keep the ball out of our net for whatever reason and it’s gutting."

Albrighton's leveller before half-time gave Leicester something to work with and, although it wasn't enough for victory, Barnes was pleased to get back onto the scoresheet himself. That was his seventh goal of the season, but first since the restart.

"It was important," he said, on Albrighton's equaliser. "It gives you that little bit of confidence going into the break. If not, it’s more of a negative going in there. I thought, in the first half, we played well.

"We didn’t deserve to go in there 1-0 down, so that goal evened it out to probably where we should’ve been at half-time. It gave us something to build on.

Barnes: Promise In The Performance

Harvey Barnes provides his verdict on Leicester City's 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion at King Power Stadium.

"[For the second goal], it’s something we looked at in training… if it does get flicked on to that area, I’ve got to be there to put it away. You can’t just let it run through. I was there in my spot and it was good to put us in front.

"Myself and the team, we haven’t got going since the break. Today’s going to be a good positive for us, even though the three points weren’t there. Performance-wise, we’ve scored a few goals, there are a few positives to take and we’ve got the cup next week. We’ve got a lot to work on and a lot to build on in the second half of the season."

A tough but exciting run of fixtures sit on the horizon for the Foxes, but Barnes hopes they will enable them to elevate their levels: "As players, they’re the tests that you want. We seem to turn up and do well against the big teams.

"It’s a good challenge. They’re the games you want to be playing in. It was a missed opportunity for us today, but we’ll look to the cup next week, and then we’ve got some big challenges coming up.

"Hopefully we’ll get a few positive results and climb the table."
