The Wales international shot-stopper took time out from preparing for this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur to chat to the Club’s matchday publication about his season so far, that first league win of 2023 and look ahead to facing the Lilywhites.

Heading into Saturday’s 3pm GMT kick-off at King Power Stadium following a 4-2 victory at Villa Park seven days earlier, it has provided a welcomed confidence boost within the squad, Ward believes.

“It was a really good win for us,” he told CITY. “The first half was a bit crazy, but I think that was to be expected in some ways because we had players coming back who hadn’t played for a while and three new boys in the starting XI.

Goals - City's Last Villa Win

Watch all the goals from Villa Park as the Foxes sealed a memorable win over Aston Villa earlier in 2023.

“I thought we looked a real threat going forward, and then we looked really solid defensively and we tightened things up in the second half. We came away with what was a big victory for us.

“It felt like a lifetime since our last league win, but it was more a case of focusing on all the work we’ve put in since that World Cup break. We’ve not been winning, but it finally came to fruition. It was nice to get a win again. It was a step forward for us, but now we have to build on that.”

Continuing that momentum will be no easy feat, though. Tottenham also claimed victory in their last outing – a 1-0 win over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City - and defeated the Foxes 6-2 in the reverse fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September.

We know that when we play well, with the support behind us, we can make that a real tough place for teams to come.

Leicester will have home advantage on Filbert Way and that is something the ‘keeper knows the squad are as keen as ever to capitalise on.

The 29-year-old added: “We’re giving everything we can to get the fans three points against Tottenham and we do that every time we enter the pitch. We know that when we play well, with the support behind us, we can make that a real tough place for teams to come and get anything.”

Pick up a copy of CITY from programme sellers around King Power Stadium on Saturday, with plenty of other content, including Danny Ward's full interview, to read inside.
