Barnes: We Have To Fight

Barnes was City's goalscorer in Tuesday evening's 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa at King Power Stadium. That was Leicester's seventh loss in eight games in all competitions. They sit 19th in the Premier League table with nine matches to go.
With first team matters overseen by Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell, Barnes insists that the Foxes simply must dig in and fight for every single point. City still have to play several teams around them and possess a squad full of quality.
"I thought, in periods of the game, we did well," Barnes told LCFC TV on Filbert Way. "It’s obviously disappointing to go behind. We got ourselves back in the game well and at a good time as well, going into the break. It’s difficult in the second half.
"We absorbed a bit of their pressure. We created a few chances, but then, going down to 10 men, it’s tough. We stuck together for as long as we could and then, in the end, it’s a great finish that wins it. It’s heartbreak at the end. For us, it’s been difficult to see games out and get those results. It’s the same again tonight, but all we can do is look forward."
There's no misunderstanding at Leicester City, Barnes says. The players know the predicament they're in. Now they have to do something about it, the Academy graduate stresses.
"As players, we understand the position we’re in," he added. "Everybody at the Club does. We take responsibility for that, everyone does. I think we showed tonight that, even though it was a quick turnaround, we stuck together.
"That’s all we can do for the rest of the season now – try and get results. That’s important for us. We’ll give everything and we’re going to need the fans to be behind us for the rest of the season. We’re back here at the weekend for another big game and we’ll be giving our all as we did tonight. The lads are giving everything. We've got a lot of quality in the side.
"For whatever reason, we've underachieved and we know that as players. It's difficult sitting in that changing room when you look at the quality we have and the position we're in. You almost can't believe it, but we are where we are.
"We've got nine games left now. We'll stick together, we'll give our our and you'd like to think that the quality we have will hopefully get us over the line."
