Foxes Called Up For International Duty

A host of Leicester City players are in line to take to the field for their countries this month.

- Five players could be involved in EURO qualifiers
- AFCON qualifiers are taking place in June
- There's involvement in the UEFA EURO U21 Championship

International action resumes following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, with plenty of competitive fixtures involving City's players to come across the globe.

Two Foxes have been selected in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO qualifiers, with defenders Timothy Castagne and Wout Faes both named in the roster.

After facing Austria in Brussels on 17 June, the Red Devils travel to Tallin for a meeting with Estonia three days later (both 7:45pm kick-offs).

Domenico Tedesco’s side are currently second in Group F heading into these latest qualifying matches having won their opening group game against Sweden 3-0.

The midfielder made his first senior England start against Ukraine in the last international window.

England travel across the continent to face Malta on 16 June, with James Maddison in Gareth Southgate’s squad to fly out to Southern Europe. City’s No.10 may also feature against North Macedonia at Old Trafford on 19 June (both 7:45pm kick-offs).

The Three Lions top Group C as things stand and will be looking to preserve their 100 per cent record on matchday three and four.

Also among the home nations, Danny Ward will be hoping to earn his 31st senior cap for Wales when Armenia visit Cardiff City Stadium on 16 June. Turkey are next up for the Dragons three days later, travelling to Samsun Stadium for another 7:45pm kick-off.

Rob Page’s outfit are unbeaten so far in qualifying, taking four points from two Group D matches.

June’s qualifiers could also see Leicester captain Jonny Evans in action, who has been named as part of Michael O’Neill’s 27-man squad.

His Northern Ireland side have three points and are fifth in Group H heading into their double-header against Denmark - at Parken Stadium on 16 June - and then Kazakhstan back at Windsor Park on 19 June (both 7:45pm kick-offs).

Elsewhere in Europe, full-back Victor Kristiansen is included in Denmark Under-21s' squad to take on Lithuania Under-21s at Jonava Stadium on 16 June (4pm kick-off).

It's set to be the Danes' first UEFA EURO U21 qualifier in Group I and is followed by a clash with Wales Under-21s back on home soil at Vejle Stadium on 20 June (5pm kick-off).

Souttar has 15 international caps to his name.

Over in Africa, Patson Daka’s Zambia face Ivory Coast in an AFCON qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on 16 June (2pm kick-off). A win would see the Copper Bullets move back to the top of Group H, two points ahead of the Ivorians, with one game to play.

AFCON qualification continues for Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho when Nigeria meet Sierra Leone on 18 June. A win in the 5pm kick-off at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium would confirm that the Super Eagles top Group A having already collected nine points from four games.

Foxes centre-back Harry Souttar may play in a one-off international friendly for Australia against Argentina in China on 15 June (1pm kick-off). The exhibition match will take place at Workers’ Stadium in Beijing.
