‘I’m Ready To Fight’ – Palmer’s Aims For The Year Ahead

Aimee Palmer signed a one-year deal with the Foxes this week and is looking forward to joining up with a former manager and new team-mates.

Having lifted the Barclays Women’s Championship title for the second time in her career last season, Palmer felt it was time for a new challenge as she transitioned from Bristol City to LCFC Women on a permanent basis.

At 23-years-old, the midfielder is looking forward to working with Willie Kirk, a manager she’s familiar with from her time at the Robins, and is ready to show what she’s got in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“It’s been a long process, so I’m happy to finally get the deal over the line,” Palmer commented in her first interview on Filbert Way. “It’s a Club I’ve followed for years, and I’ve worked with Willie Kirk before so when the opportunity came about, I was delighted to make it happen.

A new challenge for the two-time Barclays Women's Championship title winner.

“I was a lot younger when I worked with him previously, and he saw a lot of potential in me, so after a tough few seasons with injury, it’s nice to join back up with a manager who believes in me and believes I can make it at the next level, so that’s the main reason for coming here and working with him again.

“His main message was that he wanted me here, and he outlined the ambitions of the Club, which is a massive reason why I joined. I don’t just want to play in the WSL, I want to fight in this league, and I really believe this team will finish high this season.”

Labelling herself as a composed central midfielder, who has experience of winning, the former Manchester United academy graduate is ready to don the famous blue shirt at King Power Stadium and is itching to get going.

I’m a leader as well, so hopefully I can bring those qualities across to Leicester.

She continued: “I’ve had good experience from winning the Championship, but as a player I want to develop, and I believe I can play in the WSL, and this provides a great chance. As I said, my ambitions match those of the Club, so I’m happy to be here and hopefully get the season off to a good start.

“I’m best at holding midfield, I like to think I’ve got a good pass on me. I read the game well, and I always play for the shirt. Even though I’m still young, I think I arrive with a calm head and a lot of experience. I’m a leader as well, so hopefully I can bring those qualities across to Leicester.”

Born in Norfolk, Palmer represented the Young Lionesses from Under-17s to Under-21s, and knows the English game well. Excited to sign for the Foxes, she believes Leicester is the right fit for her, and can't wait to meet her new supporters on Filbert Way in October.

Looking out on her new home.

“I’ve followed both the men’s and women’s sides for a few years now, and I love how they play football,” the former Bristol City star added. “I’ve had a few days here and the culture is unbelievable and suits me well. I’m excited to put the shirt on for the first time and get going.

“The girls have been saying how good it is to play at King Power Stadium, but it’s not until you come here that you realise how good it is. I’ve had my first look today and I can’t wait to get started.

“It's the best time to get the deal done, it’s everything I could’ve asked for, and like I said, I can’t wait to get going and put a smile on the Leicester fans’ faces.”
