The young Foxes side were beaten 4-1 by the Gunners at Meadow Park on Friday - their first loss of the Premier League 2 campaign. After taking the lead, the dismissal of Paul Appiah handed the hosts an advantage which they seized, scoring three second half goals to put the game beyond doubt.

“We started the game quite well,” Wilson-Brown reflected. “We knew Arsenal are a good side, so we wanted to keep it tight early on and I think we did that. We got the first goal, which in the gameplan was really important.

“But then obviously the goal just before half-time was really disappointing. Even at half-time, we were still very much in the game but that harsh, unfortunate red card just after half-time did make it difficult, especially when we’re playing such a good team.”

The centre-back netted City’s goal on the night, turning home Amani Richards’ cross having also registered an assist during the opening day success over Derby County.

Playing 90 minutes in both matches, the defender also spoke about how he has settled into a more prominent role in the side this term, making the step up from the Under-18s side.

“It’s always nice to contribute and get on the scoresheet,” the 18-year-old stated. “It’s something I think I can do a lot more of this season so hopefully there’s a few more to come going into the rest of the season to help the team in more games.

Playing quite a few games last season has definitely helped me a lot, as the quality is another level of football.

“I think I’ve had a good, positive start. I was getting a lot of minutes in pre-season and then in the first two games I’ve been feeling fit. Getting goal contributions is something I’m able to do from a deep position.

“Personally, my experiences last season have made it a lot easier. I felt like I’ve gone into it a lot more comfortably. Obviously playing quite a few games has definitely helped me a lot, as the quality is another level of football.

“I’ve just looked to carry on doing what I’ve done from being an Under-18s player, carrying that into the Under-21s this season and just be myself really. Ben [Petty] has helped, all the coaching staff have really helped.

“Especially last season, getting me into the team made me feel comfortable. They’ve started me in both games, making me feel an important part of the team, so it’s definitely been really good for me.”

Extended highlights of City's Under-21s PL2 match against Derby County at Leicester City Training Ground.

Attention turns to facing Blackburn Rovers at Lancashire FA County Ground on Sunday (1pm kick-off), a side yet to pick up a win in the expanded 26-team PL2 league for 2023/24. City, meanwhile, sit 16th in the early standings.

The youngster added: “Especially after the Arsenal game, it’s going to be an important one. It’s crucial that we get the three points.

“We’ve got two games left now before the international break and Ben has been telling us to go into that in the highest possible position in the table, so three points on Sunday is important.”
