We Showed Patience, Says Doyle

Tuesday night’s triumph ensured Enzo Maresca’s side will be in the third round of the competition - having also seen off Burton Albion earlier this month - with the draw set to take place late on Wednesday.

“It was good,” Doyle reflected on the performance following full-time in Birkenhead. “Obviously, in the first half, we didn’t get the goal that we wanted, but we showed in the second half that we can be patient and get those goals.

Tranmere Rovers 0 Leicester City 2

Leicester City put their name into the hat for the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers.

“I felt we played well, we had most of the ball and we found spaces and then created chances, so we were a bit unfortunate not to be in the lead going into the break. The changes made the game change, they all made good impacts.

Wanya [Marçal] did that today and Yunus [Akgün] got on the ball and got at them, which created our two goals really. I was very impressed. He played on the right-hand side, cutting inside, and was very bright and intelligent. I can’t wait to see more of him in the season.”

City were rewarded when Wilfred Ndidi found the net 10 minutes into the second half, closely followed by Jamie Vardy’s opening goal of 2023/24, wrapping up a 2-0 success at Prenton Park.

“It was two great finishes,” the Manchester City loanee analysed. “I’m not sure if Wilf’s is a cross or a finish but I’ll leave that down to him! The second one, Vards’, was a good goal. It was great work down the right-hand side and a great header.

Doyle: A Good Performance

Callum Doyle offers his thoughts on Leicester City's win at Tranmere Rovers - booking their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

“It settled things down. But I think they came after us in the last 15 and we felt the pressure and we gave the ball away a bit too easy, but altogether it was a good performance.”

While appreciating the winning run Leicester are currently on, six games across all competitions, the defender is not getting carried away by the 100 per cent record. Tough challenges await, he assured, starting with Saturday’s return to league action at home to Hull City.

The centre-back explained: “I’m really enjoying it at the moment. We’ve just got to keep going, keeping winning and keep that mentality going. It’s going to be tough this season with the amount of games that we’ve got, but we’ll take it game by game.”
