Iheanacho: A Great Team Performance

Remaining calm and battling through a tactical battle helped Leicester City to an ultimately commanding win at Blackburn Rovers, according to goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho.

- Leicester City secured a 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Sunday
- That result opened up a two-point advantage at the Sky Bet Championship summit
- Kelechi Iheanacho hit a penalty after goals from Wout Faes and Jamie Vardy
- Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also got onto the scoresheet for the flying Foxes

Wout Faes headed the Foxes in front early on at Ewood Park, but a quick-fire equaliser from Sammie Szmodics made it a contest for the Sky Bet Championship leaders.

Jamie Vardy's rocket restored City's lead before the break, while a penalty from Iheanacho and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's late chip made sure of an eighth league win of the season.

Leicester are now two points clear at the top of the table, but the Nigerian says Enzo Maresca's men were made to work for it in Lancashire on Sunday.

"We started well and we scored, but they are a very good side with the ball," Iheanacho said. "We had a tough time in the first half. We suffered a lot, but we were up in the first half 2-1.

"It was a strong game, but in the second half, we controlled more, and we nailed them in the counter attacks and got the goals that we wanted.

A Great Team Performance, Says Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho shares his post-match thoughts following victory at Blackburn Rovers.

"They move a lot. We watched them a lot on the video, so we knew that. We tried to control the situation, but unfortunately, they got back in the game. We stayed calm and continued working hard.

"We kept going to earn the second goal. It was a really tough game for us, but I think we controlled it more in the second half. It was a great team performance."

Iheanacho reversed praise for attacking colleague Vardy, who put Leicester back on course for victory with an excellent left-footed strike in the first half.

"That’s a great finish," he added. "We know what Vards is like when he’s in the box. It was a good switch from Stephy [Mavididi] to Abdul [Fatawu] and then to Wilf [Ndidi].

"It was good team play. Wilf did a great pass to the back post for Jamie and you know what he’s like. It’s a great finish with his left foot as well."

Foxes Hit Four At Blackburn

All the goals from Leicester City's comprehensive Sky Bet Championship win at Blackburn Rovers.

Naturally, the former Manchester City forward was thrilled to be back on the scoresheet, with another spot-kick taking his seasonal tally up to three goals.

"Obviously, when you’re in there and you see the opportunity, you take it," he explained. "It was a penalty and I’ll take the chance. It was a good team performance today so the team deserve a lot of credit.

"It’s two penalties for me, but I’ll take that. We’ll be focused on the next game now and hopefully we’ll get more goals and another good team performance."

City were supported by over 3,000 away fans at Ewood Park on Sunday and Iheanacho says that backing never goes unnoticed, especially considering the travel which is required.

"They’ve travelled from Leicester to here, so it’s good we give them something back," the No.14 said. "I think they’ll be happy travelling back with a big win, so I’m happy. We go again.

"We’re on top now, but it’s a tough league. We need to keep going because there’s a lot of games. We have a big squad, so we need to manage ourselves and keep getting the wins.

"We just keep learning and going game by game and, at the end of the season, we’ll see where we are."
